Some team has to sign him to a one or two year deal with loads and loads of conditions and incentives and, if he refuses, no other team needs to bother at all.   In effect, he has a two year warranty hold on his career to see if he will ever really play again.   And if his ankle explodes, the remaining teams can tell that one team, "you broke it, you bought it."   Cannot imagine which team would waste a roster spot even on a min-contract.  I'm sure someone will.

The Twins already have.

There were signs. They're called x-rays and MRIs.

I knew something was seriously farked up with the guy for accepting that *much* smaller contract. I assumed he was in worse shape than even that contract implied.

And the press gave the Giants holy hell about losing this contract this too.

the "press" - we're talking SF Gate and the Chronic here, not exactly journalistic titans

Yet they are the major outlets for the 7.8million in the Bay Area.

sooo glad the Cubs got Dansby instead, no matter how he performs. Correa's ankle is a bomb that's already gone off and is now steadily leaking radiation.

20 years ago, I trusted the East Bay Express more than the Chron. You know, the one w/ all the hooker ads in the back.

Not sure who bashed them there, but the Comical has some good writers. Ray Ratto, Susan Slusser and Ann Killion are all solid and their outdoor writer is outstanding. I'll give you SFgate though. I get a lot of green lights from articles there. Not exactly a sign of journalistic excellence.

Somehow, the Mets avoided this.

It truly is the end of times...

Don't worry, the Mets'll find something else to cock up.

Can't say I'm surprised the Twins would blow their load on him.

It's a shorter deal, but it's actually a lot more money up front.

Mets deal was 12/315m.  Twins is 6/200, with options that can take it up to 10/270.  He will make something like 42.5m more in the first six years under his current deal.

He's unlikely to see a 2/45 deal in a decade to tie it up entirely, but if he's able to play at all then, he'll get a little more at least. And who knows what the economic landscape looks like in a decade. Maybe 2/45 is a reasonable deal for a veteran (likely third baseman) at that time. Or maybe he makes some money coaching or whatnot. Plus the money up front.
