In a statement attached to the final report, the court called the leak a "grave assault" on the court's legitimacy...

How can you assault something that ceased to exist years ago?

Many people are saying Justice Brett Kavanaugh's favorite song is "Code Blue" by T.S.O.L.

It's called "physical evidence".
So yes, it confirms they suck at their job too.

Well that settles it, we are gonna need to send every current Supreme Court Justice to prison and replace them with all new Biden appointed justices.  I don't see any other solution.  We should do this now instead of waiting.

The amount of documents and self-importance you have is inversely proportional to the amount of document security you practice.  In my experience it seems lawyers tend to be the worst about keeping their massive amount of paperwork secured.

The problem with the justices' use of emails persisted in part because some justices were slow to adopt to the technology and some court employees were nervous about confronting them to urge them to take precautions, one person said. Such behavior meant that justices weren't setting an example to take security seriously.

The justices were "not masters of information security protocol," one former court employee told CNN.

But surely a little training on how to keep secrets safe would be acceptable. I would demand the to do it. They aren't gawds.

"Supreme Court employees also used printers that didn't produce logs."

Such a thing exists? I can buy a printer that will print logs? Like, a 3d printer? This will save a lot of money on firewood.

But seriously, aside from the occasional case that has something to do with national security, everything the supreme court does should be public. They aren't inventing anything. The "value" they "produce" is rhetoric about the interpretaion and application of constitutional law. What secrets are there to secure?

Anyone wanting to make court information more secure has a frightening long game in mind. And THAT we should take very seriously.

It cannot bode well if our highest judges are either too lazy or too fearful of learning new to adopt better digital security practices.

I saw the headline and thought of IT security measures and how convenience and security are opposing forces. People choose convenience and when it's someone in leadership doing it, the people under them fear retaliation and are powerless to speak out. As the people above their bosses are doing the same thing!

A note about burn bags (that probably no one is interested in, but here you go): When I worked at the White House Complex, I had a burn bag. It resided under my desk where my legs were. Once a day, a security person would swap out my bag (made of paper) and its contents and leave me with a new bag. I handed it to him. This was done at the end of the day. Nobody left a burn bag in the halls.

That is all.

Not elected.
Lifetime appointment.
Can't be removed from office for all practical purposes.
Has no ethics rules that must be followed.
Has ultimate say over the law of the land*.
Has, for the most part, objectively made the country worse with bad decisions.

Might as well be gods.

*technically nothing prevents the executive branch and Congress from ignoring their decisions, but that has almost never happened.

So when your investigation required depositions under oath from all but 9 people in the building and turned up nothing, maybe you should have completed your assignment

Tyrone Slothrop: Can't be removed from office for all practical purposes.

A President could easily remove them - it's just no one wants to do it because it will be the nuclear option.

The President can nominate anyone to an open federal judge seat, even serving judges. That's how federal judges get moved up to other positions. As soon as the Senate confirms them to the new position, their old one is open.

The President could take someone like Clarence Thomas and nominate him to some federal judge seat in Nome, Alaska. The Senate could confirm him. Once he's confirmed, his Supreme Court seat is open for the President to fill with someone else.

The flaw in your plan: the nomination can be declined and the approval not accepted by the person so chosen.

I, for one, would like to hear some more law talking about this. Not being common knowledge in today's world is troublesome logic.

Judging by how many classified documents are showing up all the fark over the place, even discounting the ones that were stolen by the truckload by TFG, you apparently have better document security than the entire Federal government.

Well that article is disingenuous as hell.

The burn bags in the hallway assume that the staff are already secure, and the building is secure. Until Dobbs was leaked, that was not in doubt.

This article is teahter in order to make the US citizens want the SCOTUS under surveillance. And that is extremely bad for a democracy. It is Soviet totalitarian levels of totalitariansim. It blast by Castro and Pol Pot right into Stalinism levels of FUBAR for a democracy's supreme court to be surveiled at the level of detail the article advocates.

Maybe the Justices are using private email as a dead drop? They all have a shared email account that uses HTTPS when they log in and they save drafts for each other to retrieve instead of sending them across unsecured channels?

Exactly.

OOOGA-BOOGA! burn bags are in OPEN hallways!

Open to whom? Vetted staffers, and not the public? Oh, the horror!
