Well, OK! We saw nobody get punished for the great recession of 2008, we see Trump and Santos able to say whatever they want whether it degrades the system, kills a million people, etc. And now the CEO and chief shareholder of a hugely valued company is able to say whatever he wants with impunity.

Impunity. That is what it means.

Go ahead and lie to enrich yourselves everyone! Nobody cares, and you will not be punished!

We all know where this ends. You want to build a system on faith and credibility? You want somebody to buy a car from you? Put their life savings in your company?

The next step is passing legislation to force people to buy your products.

About that...

A new help document on Netflix's site also explained that for people to have "uninterrupted access to Netflix", they will have to keep watching something from their home every 31 days.  If they don't do so, they will be asked to put in a temporary code in order to log in.

How far away are we from "Your Honor, my client is rich and therefore can do whatever the fark he wants" being an acceptable legal defense that is taught in law school? What happened to the affluenza kid?

'Affluenza' teen whose lawyers argued he was too spoiled to go to jail is locked up again

Ethan Couch was released in April 2018 after spending 720 days in Tarrant County jail - 180 days for each of the four people he killed. His case has since become a rallying cry for the advocacy group Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which has pushed for harsher penalties for impaired drivers who kill others.

But at least you managed to sneak in some fossil fuel propaganda. Good job.

I thought you were finally gone from Fark after your rant about environmentalists unfairly maligning coal. Sad to see you're back.

Rules created by a business in relation to a subscription people voluntarily purchases is not the same as governing legislation applied to the public.

First, let me say that I'm not an Elon apologistand that I find him odious. But ... short sellers do this shiat on a daily basis so if you're going to crack down on this stock manipulation behavior then do it to everyone. Then juries will understand where the line is that cannot be crossed.

Umm, short sellers aren't the CEO of the company

You want to claim Tesla's going private or that it's overvalued?  Go ahead, nobody cares.
When Elmo claims the same thing the stock prices shifts by 10% in a day

If you don't crack down on this CEOs can simply abuse the system by manipulating stock prices to make themselves fabulously rich at the expense of ordin....

Never mind, carry on, working as designed.

It's important to remember a couple of things here. First, it was a civil claim by Tesla shareholders, and therefore had a lower standard of proof than a criminal trial; second, it was a jury trial, and I suspect that, as usual with any reasonably complex allegation of financial fraud, the jury didn't really understand the issues, and it was a Friday afternoon (most legal experts thought Musk was toast, and are incredulous that he won).

Short sellers make claims all the time that cause stock prices to shift 10% in a day, making themselves rich. Sometimes they'll at least hide their activities by feeding their information to a reporter, but a good chunk of the time they don't even bother and just say it themselves.

Maybe somebody should keep an eye on the jurors finances for a couple years.

"short sellers" can't give insider information to 130 million people in an instant like elon musk can do, which he did.

you wanna crack down on short sellers? fine i'll help build the guillotine. But musk goes first, not last.

F*ck MADD, though. They're so extreme now that the woman who actually helped start them quit. She said they had just become a neo-temperance movement.

While I'm not at l arguing this asshole got what he deserved, do they think harsher penalties would have prevented this? Do they think it'll reduce drunk-driving accidents? Because this feels a lot more like "I'm angry and someone must be punished" than "We haven't reduced incidents enough."

I mean, where's the lie? CA is mandating 100% car and truck salets to be 0 emission by 2035. FWIW Elon is a con man who built Tesla using government money. So it's not really a surprise that whether he's involved with this or not, he's positioned himself again to make money off of government regulation. But indeed, the government sure is helping his chance of success.

Again, no level of legal "justice" is ever going to come for this class of filth.

Guillotines or GTFO.

You can buy another brand. You can buy a Mirai or Nexo. You can ride a bike. You can take public transport. You can stay home. If you're really desperate to drive a gas car, you could ::gasp:: buy a used one. There will be a ton of options that all involve not buying a Tesla.

I guess Elon Musk borrowed Obama's time machine and went back to take over Tesla before governments were talking about banning new ICE sales.

As opposed to the brave oil companies that just keep their noses to the grindstone and work to give people the energy they need with no help, rain or shine, against all odds, around the world ::national anthem begins to play:: for you and me. For America. For the Texan who needs heat in a flash freeze. For the farmer who needs the tools to get the job done ::farmer smiles and waves::. For the single mother who just needs reliable transport.

Exxon Mobil. The engine that powers America.
