Why is this a record?

I mean that in the sense of why is somebody keeping track of things like this?

have you seen Totally Bonkers Guinness World Records tv show or similar?  They're mostly really bizarre, and really stupid.  you can see the 'point' of biggest sandwich, or most push ups... but it's stuff like the most snails on a face, and the most beer bottles opened with feet.

hard to imagine what would be too stupid.

I hope to be noticed someday for "most vacuous Fark comment".

yeahbut, it's literally just as much of a record as laying lego bricks end-to-end on a table - it's not really a feat if anyone can just pay Subway to deliver enough to break the record, cos that's a record Elon could win from his private jet.

Now, if it had been the world's longest continuous sub-sandwich, I'd be more impressed.

Because the Guinness people will gladly help anyone who pays them to break a completely invented record.  It used to be that Guinness was only in the business of confirming and recording records.  Nowadays, they are happy to work with you to sell you a record.  That is the reason why there has been an big increase in the number of these dumb record-breaking stories in recent years.  It's nothing but capitalism and advertising.

Gross who eats a 5 hour old sandwich?

Do you think they measured each one? Or did they get smart about it and measure the overall length / avg(a random sampling)?
