Batsh*tti cars have insane prices for insane prices sake. The tires have to be imported because you can't buy them domestically, and god help the Powerball winner who buys one of these and runs it through a standard car wash for the first time. Those things are a money-sink on wheels, which I guess billionaire prefer to throw money at rather than.....I dunno.....pay their fair share in taxes?

And it goes down to $20,000 in value once you drive it off the lot.

Did the new owner drive it home? Put a cup of soda in the cup holder?
:)

I would have bid on it, but I wanted it in red.

Someone's bratty kid is going to crash that car. Hopefully, it doesn't kill anyone.

One-of-one is the main selling point. Some Saudi sheik is wetting himself in joy. The car will never be driven, not that many(any) Bugatti are driven anywhere near their limits. Just another Rembrandt or Picasso for the ultra Ritchie to doge taxes with.

But it is still very very cool.

Supercars, like luxury watches, seem to be appreciable assets.

Yes, that ugly piece of shiat will go through a set of tires. People who buy cars like that are idiots in the first place, because the irony of reality is that the cars that look the best are usually things like this, which is far more practical

If your butler forgets to give the tires their monthly treatments they will start to look old and cracked.  This may happen faster if you're not storing it somewhere that is humidity-controlled.

Not Bugattis, though. They are well known for insane depreciation

Is the most expensive car ever sold?? Is this really worth it?

You honestly think that Lotus is a good-looking car?

An old Benz sold for 135 mm Euros, but charity sales seldom make good benchmarks. That said, $10.7 mm doesn't even put this car in the top 10.

Noooooo A perfect example of the economic trickle down theory. See? It works. That rich guy made work for other people.

That's why it's the most expensive *new* car ever sold at auction.

It sure does for a brand new car

Nope. Bugatti itself sold one for $18 mm last year. As the person upthread mentioned, really the only distinctive thing about this is that most new cars don't usually come at auction except as charity events, and apparently none of them has sold for this amount.

Bugattis should only be sold with the mouse ears and whiskers included.

To be fair building that car clearly employed a lot of people on decent wages, and a lot of suppliers, and contributed a lot of tax. It certainly did more good than leaving the money in a bank account or buying gold bars.

If I had stupid money to where I could by that, I'd do Uber pick ups in it, just for the lulz.

Yes, because ultra high performance tires like this time out whether you use them or not.

Rich people buy stupid expensive things just to brag about being able to do it. And stupid expensive things are created so they can.
