(Politico)   Kevin McCarthy would like the DOD to give Congress a briefing on the giant Chinese street light hovering over Montana, presumably to explain if it's trying to "beam up" Hunter Biden's laptop, and if it's being powered by adrenochrome   (politico.com) divider line

If the GOP ever realize surveillance satellites are a thing, they'll outright shiat themselves in fear.

A briefing? Just make a f*cking phone call to the Chiefs. What the f*ck is it with these assholes needing to waste time and money on absolutely nothing?

Can we just have one day where stupid people aren't able to drive the national discussion?

Can't put on a big dog and pony show with a bunch of leading questions meant to discredit your political opponents with a phone call.

Republicans are those people at work that do nothing but act like they are busy either by facial expressions or acting irritated when you talk to them.  It's all a show.

It's hard when the derp has a majority in the House and all they want to do is get attention and fill the air with derp.

Merrick Garland could have prevented all of this.

I was told the reason they didn't shoot it down was because it was over populated areas.  What's the excuse now?

The Chiefs are busy watching footage of the Eagles.  Maybe call back later, but I guarantee you Andy Reid won't be able to talk to you between 5 and 8 pm - that's dinner time, the whole 3 hours.

His choosing to grandstand about this publicly just adds an exclamation point to the fact that he doesn't belong anywhere near that committee.

Kevin being in charge and with the assistance of the gang of eight has to be one of the biggest security risks this country faces. They lie about everything & their sole motivation is to stick it to the libs, and I just don't think that mentality should be present in the group charged with protecting Americans.

He's already lying concerning this for virtually no reason. He came out and said Biden isn't doing anything about this. And of course the base jumped on that, and now all over social media do-nothing-Biden is trending. Despite that fact that Biden has asked what military options there are for this and he cancelled his Sec of States trip to China. It is obviously very high on his priority list, but Qevin is telling everyone he's doing nothing.

This is gonna be a loooooooong 2 years...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's flying above commercial airspace, it's too far from land-based cell towers to use them for transmissions (and DEFINITELY too far for any Wi-Fi). Though I suppose it could be using satellites...

// so just fly a drone up there and run Wireshark
// do I have to think of EVERYTHING?! jeeez

This is the first spy balloon ever used in history so it's certainly worth treating like the end of the world.

Interesting tidbits.

1.  For a spy balloon, it's pretty bad at its job.  You can go to Montana and see it from the ground.  This reminds me of the time my friend tried to secretly record his GF and him having sex with a camera hidden in a drawer with clothes piled on top.  The blinking red light on the front kind of gave it away.
2.  They already have spy satellites so... I guess this would give you a closer view, but everyone can see it coming and hide their stuff, so it kind of defeats the purpose.
3.  The Pentagon says this isn't new:  A senior defense official told reporters on Thursday that similar balloons had been spotted before, including in previous presidential administrations. So, is this all Obama's fault?
4.  The NY Times has my favorite headline:  U.S. Detects Suspected Chinese Spy Balloon Hovering Over ...

Balloons can't hover.

Yes they can. Same as a sailing ship can become becalmed. When there is no wind.

It's at 60,000.  That's why the F-22 was sent to check it out.  It can fly to 60,000 ft.  The F-15s that were based there are limited to 50,000.

I'm absolutely not saying you're wrong. But do make sure you explain this to all those "responsable gun owners" who are itching to take it down.
