Patriots don't try to violently overturn elections.

... Can't... Can't the original court hold them in contempt or something? Maybe DOJ could file charges for perjury? I mean, they're effectively, and publicly, saying they lied in court.

I know, I'm expecting a LOT from a system geared to help racist, fascist, asshole Rederplicans squeak by without any real repercussions. Just... Jesus. Is there no point where the conderpative courts will stop fellating these Kristallnacht cockbags?

Every Jan 6 case should have been a death penalty case. Either life in prison or death. A lot of these people wouldn't have air to talk then.

Tell me this is in response to being barred from owning firearms. 🙄

Sounds like some folks need to find out again.

It's funny how many of the "J6 is a false flag by antifa!!!!" have turned to "Well it was peaceful" once they realized the false flag bullsh*t didn't stick.

If it was peaceful, why did you bother with the "antifa" sh*t?

/because you know it was wrong and, as always, conservatives are desperate to be the victim

Shoulda been an Obvious tag.

And it would've saved so much money and time if they'd all just been Babbitted.

In one case the judge is threatening to cancel the plea deal and go to trial.

Next up for the SCOTUS: Felons can own guns but only the ones we approve. Kinda like allowing felons to vote then arresting them. They were the wrong felons.

Time for judges to just start sentencing with max punishments regardless of the plea agreement. The agreements only bind the US Atty's office and the defendants. Federal pleas are incredibly clear that the Court isn't a party to them and once the guilty plea is made the Court has sole discretion over the sentence. So if the judges have been burned ... and they have ... they should just start disregarding the agreements made. Fark 'em.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Appearing before a federal judge after pleading guilty to a felony charge in the deadly Capitol riot , former West Virginia lawmaker Derrick Evans expressed remorse for letting down his family and his community, saying he made a "crucial mistake by not hanging Mike Pence "

They can kill the plea deal and try them for the crimes. Also add obstruction of justice and perjury charges.

"in one case"

That kinda says a lot right there though, doesn't it? In ONE case.

https://www.insider.com/all-the-us-capitol-pro-trump-riot-arrests-charges-names-2021-1

At least 978 people have been charged in the Capitol insurrection so far.

"I will not compromise my values or beliefs." unless i can get a lighter sentence. I mean, I'm a patriot and all but, jail sucks.

Man, I honestly don't recall a bigger batch of weaselly, little wuss bags in all my days.

Tell me they weren't punished harshly enough, without telling me.

As I said on January 6th, the real risk here is that unless there are swift and immediate consequences on a very public scale they will attempt to do this all over again, and they're going to make sure as hell that they're successful.

I understand the narrative that comes from seeing a dozen of them hanging by their necks from gallows the morning of January 7th, but you can't argue that it wouldn't have minimized things like this.

People like this should live in fear for the rest of their lives.  They should be living in a state of minimized contact with the world with the absolute terror that if the truth was found out that they would need to flee immediately.

The fact that they aren't means that we have utterly failed.

Agreed, whoever compared it to the Beer Hall Putsch was right on.  And now we get to speedrun the rest of it.

We failed to punish them harshly enough, the fact they're out here spouting off again is a sign of that.

Which means Jan 6th was a training exercise.

I wouldn't prefer to go quite that far, yet.

However, judges should possibly ask defendant insurrectionists whether they have any evidence that their contrition is any more sincere than these backsliders who went ahead of them; and weigh their claims of contrition accordingly.

And ideally, those who have gone before will need to show much more evidence of contrition to avoid maximum sentences on any and all future offenses, down to and including parking tickets.

I kinda wished the the Army or National Guard showed up and "handled" the threats.  That would have put a direct end to the whole thing.

Does some body have to declare him ineligible to run, or does every instance have to be adjudicated?

Thank goodness for Judge Mehmet's minute order. Send all of the guilty J6ers back to jail if they flip flop on their plea deals.

Garland's DOJ should never have even offered plea deals to traitors in the first place.

I'm all for giving people a second chance, but this wanna-be politician is going out of his way to prove he doesn't deserve one. So may he fail to be hired for every job he ever applies to, especially political.

And I am not a lawyer or judge, but my understanding is that the fact that the defendant pled guilty (to get the plea deal) can be used against the said defendant as evidence of admission of guilt in the revived trial.  None of this "I plead the 5th against self-incrimination" bullshiat.  Uh, no, you plead guilty as a matter of public record.

Well, they only apologized in the first place to get leniency in court. If it doesn't there's no point. For them.
For regular people an apology might be a way of expressing regret and the start of making amends, but it'd be unrealistic and naive to attribute that to any apology they make.
Which is probably why they're not getting the leniency they're trying for.

Not to give these assholes any excuses, but I'm guessing most actually guilty people don't think there's anything wrong with what they did.

Murder? He/she deserved it.
Rape? She was asking for it.
Assault? FAFO
Robbery? I needed money for drugs/rent/whatever.
Fraud? People are stupid and deserve to get ripped off.
Child abuse? My parents whupped me all the time and I turned out alright.
Child sexual abuse? He/she was seductive and tempted me and I'm weak and ... etc.
Coup attempt? I'm a patriot!

Scumbags can always find a reason for the shiat they do. They're almost never actually sorry for what they did. They're sorry they got caught.
