I could book that for a night and sleep

I've been in multiple anechoic chambers, and I rather like them. But I've seen other people freak out pretty quick. The silence feels.... Physical. And the lack of echo definitely takes getting used to.

Is it quiet enough to hear an SBD fart?

Jokes on you suckers, tinnitus means I've always got a friend.  I call him E.  It's short for Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

Meh... I'd probably be fine in there. The constant tinnitus means that I can never be in true silence.

Pfft... my tinnitus is so bad, I'll have a steady 30dB of 10k hertz to keep me company.

After a few minutes, you'll already start to hear your own heartbeat. A few minutes after that, you can hear your own bones grinding and blood flowing.

Has anyone researched what sex is like in an anechoic chamber?
/I have an idea what those sounds would be but I'm having difficulty putting them down as written words.

Likely akin to the sound of two raw porkchops being slapped against one another.

Debunked.

There's a big one I'm in from time to time, and it's pretty cool.

The first thing I noticed was walking up to it you could hear your footsteps plus the echo in the hall, but as soon as your lead foot crossed the threshold and touched down it was just "thud".

Close the door behind you and it's eerie - I could see how certain people wouldn't be able to handle it, especially awkward talkers that always have to fill any silence with chatter.

Tinnitus sufferer here too.  And I know exactly what did it, playing snare on the high school drumline for three of the four years.  And I have two distinct pitches, corresponding to the olders style drums with the through-shell lugs that were at one pitch, and corresponding to when we switched to free-floaters that could be cranked down much, much tighter for a much higher pitch.

The silence itself wouldn't be the problem, it would be hearing only the tinnitus that would be.

as much as mine would provide a nice background hum, it might drive me crazy to only hear the tinnitus.   never had noise cancelling headphones until recently and they bug me out if they are just blocking everything out without producing sound.  it's like the tinnitus is turned up to 80db

With barbeque sauce, of course.

Might also include the sounds of weighlifters exerting themselves for good measure.

I surprisingly don't mind noise-canceling headphones.  But I don't know just how good the headphones are.  They reduce the volume, but don't entirely block all of it out.

But seriously, why did Microsoft build this crazy room?

What's creepy is that your body always makes those sounds. You just can't hear it.

they don't block everything out, but whatever they do just accentuates the eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.  even worse than like just being in silence when going to sleep, which just feels like a soothing white noise

For natural silence you can't beat a nice fresh few feet of nice fluffy powder early in the morning after a storm comes through, before everyone gets in their cars and starts making noise.

The Japanese have a word for it: shinshin.

I call it the silence after snowfall, which would make a great book name if I ever write one.

I've spent tens of hours in sensory deprivation tanks and find them relaxing. The most I've done at a stretch was eight hours (a nights sleep, basically). Of course, I'm pretty deaf and find wearing hearing aids annoying. I'd love to try an anechoic chamber.

My left ear. 3 years now. Went to doc, sorry can't do crap about it. I bought some AirPods with noise cancellation and run some soft white noise. Impractical to do all the time, but it does take the edge off when it's a little too quiet.

Someone mentioned in the comments it is used for testing for microphones, speakers, etc.  That makes sense, but I suppose could also be used to measure with good accuracy the absolute noise of something like an Xbox, pc, keyboard, or other peripheral.

Yes, you can hear yourself blink.

It's kind of a moist, high pitched popping sound.  You can also hear your eyelids moving across the surface of your eye as you blink.

About a year ago I thought  "...glad I don't have tinnitus like my mom did".
Then I listened for a few seconds and heard a thousand crickets in my head. They haven't shut up since.

Don't listen. Really. Don't.

That's what the one I've used is used for - absolute sound level coming from an emitter, to measure sound levels at exact frequencies without having to worry about resonance or harmonies.

Last time I was in there, the setup was for vacuum cleaners and analyzing the sounds they put out under load.

Of course many of us think we could handle an hour in that room.  Sure, we could talk, sing, whatever.  But any sound we make will be absorbed by the room without any chance to bounce back in the room.   It has to be a weird sensation to say the least
