I get two five pounds bags at my co-op. One pot a day but I like my coffee like my soul, dark and bitter. We go through it quickly

I have to admit, I'm a lot less offended at the article suggested idea of spending a grand a year on cappuccinos at a local place compared against whatever mass produced 50g cup of sugar every day.

I spend about 42 cents a day on the beans I use to make about 1.5L of coffee a day, so....

Coffee is about $9-10 a bag, $14 for the 48oz whole bean bag.

Meanwhile, a jar of Miracle Whip is $9.25.

Cuban coffee made in a cheapo stovetop espresso maker is pretty darn tasty, and the ingredients don't need to be expensive either. If I get an espresso while I am out its usually out of convince rather than trying to get something I cannot make for my frugal self.

That's my take, although I get one mug out of the pot and my wife drinks the rest. She occasionally gets shop coffee while we are traveling, even when we have a coffee service in our room, because that's so fark'n weak. She's been considering bring instant along to boost the stuff.

I am very happy that I never got into that habit. I don't drink caffeine if I can help it. Water, decaf tea, decaf iced tea and caffeine free diet Coke are all I drink.

7% is hardly an extraordinary number for equities - 10% is what you'd expect from an index tracking the S&P 500

I love my Keurig. But any pre-packaged coffee sucks. I buy Yuban cans and use the fillable little plastic pods for the Keurig. Every cup is fresh and perfect. And ready in less than 60 seconds.

Roasted local coffee from the market - $2 a kilo. Water from my well. French press. No sugar. No milk. Best coffee on the plamet!

I drink instant at home- can't be arsed making filter coffee for one.  but decent instant.  although I do drink a lot less coffee than I used to.
out and about, I'll get a cappuccino from Pret- they do make a nice cappuccino.  £3.65 but I get an extra shot so it's £4.summink (can't remember).  London though, innit.

gripping. stuff.  as ever

That isn't the point the equation is based on 40 years of not drinking prepared coffee

How much miracle whip do you eat?  It's $8 for 48oz or 12.76 for a gallon at walmart.  I don't think I have ever finished  a jar before it spoiled.

I was having a cup earlier while washing the mud off my truck - there was a puddle. It's a S10. It isnt even lifted - and I thought "I wonder what Jimmy considered a gourmet coffee brand?"

"How much is your daily coffee habit really costing you? The answer may be more complicated than you think."

It's not more complicated than you think... add up how much you spend on it and that's the cost.  Assuming what the person would do with that money not spent is just silly, most people spend exactly what they make or slightly more.   Paying $150 a month less on coffee you end up leasing a more expensive car or some other thing.... 99% of the time it's not going to investments.

Not as much as coffee obviously, but it's just one of those things that gave me sticker shock the other day when I was shopping. It used to be around $5.

You either grow up with Miracle Whip or Mayo, and I was the former, I barely enjoy mayo on anything.

Bustelo is kinda okay if you aer on an extreme budget, I guess. I'm a Peet's man through and through. I even have my own personalized blend- it is a 50/50 mix of French Roast and Major Dickason's.

I've named it Major Dickaroast.

I rarely buy coffee at Starbucks or other coffee shops.  I make espresso at home.  When I do get something on the road, it's a mocha, which I categorize more as a dessert than a coffee.

Current inflation means your savings just lost ~10% of their value.

Peet's is by far my favorite of the "big brands".

Tops grocery stores in my area have a phenomenal coffee selection and Peets is one they carry. They also just started carrying the Vermont Coffee Company, which I'm ecstatic about.

I used to surf with the head roaster of Peets back in the 1990s. He'd pull into the lot in a silver Mercedes that you could smell- due to the bags and bags of coffee in the trunk.

J got waves? We got free coffee. J got a customer for life.
