This has been a recurring point for the last twenty years. You gotta train those kids that they are the serving class, and you gotta train them early, or they might get ideas that they dream bigger.

Ah yes, those freeloading children.  If only we could bring back child labor and distract them from their studies even more by starving them.

Right wingers are farking scum. I take that back, that's not fair on scum. Right wingers make scum look clean and pure. Tainted evil farks.

Here's the thing.

I'd be totally down in the American school system pulled a Japan and had ALL OF THE STUDENTS take care of the school.

Students in Japan spend fifteen minutes at the end of the day to tidy the school as a group.

Teaches social responsibility and life skills and stuff.

THIS I would advocate. But ALL STUDENTS participate to their own capabilities. No one gets to opt out.

"He has also declared that if you support abortion rights, that means you also support prostitution-as both are "a woman's choice." He contended that it is "a double standard" to say otherwise. "

Goodness.  He is in danger of almost coming to a realization there.

"Your personal relationship to the God of creation is not something everybody else should be able to inquire about," he said.

After stating this, I bet he'll support a bill banning hijabs, yarmulkes and other visible non-Christian religious garb in school. "If it isn't the Christian God, it doesn't count as a relationship!"

What a shiat article.  We're supposed to be outraged by some vague quote?  Read a book and get a cookie at lunch or scrub toilets to eat?

Dude, I have no problem with the idea that all students should be responsible for keeping the school clean, but trying it to free lunch is bullshiat classist caste system elitism.

Oh yeah absolutely not.

But getting Americans to think of us as a society that impacts each other and not a band of feral individuals would be nice? We could learn some good things from collectivist societies.

I actually agree, mostly.

"Prostitution is a choice, more so than an abortion would be," he added. "No one is forced into that."

But that's just not true at all.  If you'd like it to be MORE true, legalize it.

Thanks for playing :p

You're not promoting Japanese work ethic.

You're promoting buy in from the kids about shared responsibilities and that they own part of the school they participate in.

Would never happen with Republicans making the rules.

The minority kids?  Definitely.  The lily white kids?  Maybe, but only if they're dirt poor.

Trust me, they and the people that support them want slavery and indentured servitude back and legal again.  And since they really don't give a sh*t about the Constitution, what makes you think they'll let the 13th amendment stop them?

Service in exchange for benefits from the government? Why not? I like the idea for purposes of paying for university, like an ROTC but without killing people.

Not sure I like the blatant class dichotomy on display at a high school though. Need to think through the mechanics to make it less blatantly "poor kids work for lunch whilst the rich enjoy their caviar" type of scenario.

This kiddo is awesome for raising money to pay for other kids' lunches, but the point is she shouldn't have to.
The big education bill moving through the MN legislature right now will fund school meals for all public school kids, no income cutoffs.
Good.

I worked with a German kid once.  His dad got him a job as a janitor at the packaging plant where I worked.  We were only told that when he moved on a year later.  Good worker, head down, nose to the grindstone, never complained.

I don't see how that equates to the government trying to make kids work at the school to pay for their school lunches.  Like, when are they going to be in class, or will they be forced to stay after school and do odd jobs around the school building?

Working if you're old enough to is one thing, but being forced to work for nothing solely so you can eat is a fu*king travesty.
