How about not running former Republicans and instead cultivate and promote progressive voices who will appeal to the poor, the youth vote, people of color, and anybody who has ever cared about social justice and living in a better world?

You know what I would do if I was a Florida Democrat? I would try find a former Republican governor to run as my candidate against an incumbent Republican. That would certainly get the voters to turn out!

Just like the conservative Southern Baptist Convention survived a hostile, extremist take over.  Didn't survive.

We live in a world were things break.  It can really take a generation to heal.

Also stop to be GOP lite and dreaming that somehow Republicans would vote for you then.

Yeah, Charlie Crist was governor before... But if you're running for office claiming that GoP policies are a failure, doing the "moderate" thing if promoting policies that would fail slightly less isn't a winning strategy.

FTFA:

"Florida is not South Dakota. It is not Utah. It is not Wyoming," he said. "But if you don't build it, races will not be won. There are enough voters here, there are enough independents here. There's a pathway but the brand needs to be totally redefined."

Uhhhh.....ain't that where a lot of folks are moving from, those ice bound northern regions to Florida? C'mon, Florida is almost always the top state to retire to. Annnddd....it's the one state that has it's own Fark tag-there's a reason for that. The plethora of bat shiate crazy stories that come outta there on what seems like nearly on an hourly basis, keeps Drew well stocked in his various libations of choice. I betcha the top submitters on Fark get to that point-based on Florida's rich, diverse, divisive, culture of crazy.
I don't think the democrats can redefine the party enough to begin to adapt to lunacy of Florida. Instead, do better, be better, be the quiet voice of reason. Be that port in the storm when it's quiet, and calm. I think that is the best that can be done in a very chaotic situation.
I've been around people who were flipping out (drugs, mental illness, both) while others were yelling at them to calm down, I'd talk calmly, quietly to them, it helped.

Just start cultivating a deep shadow game. Find a bunch of super progressive youngsters willing to lie to everyone for a few years while they do some grunt work out-MAGA'ing each other. Get them elected to state-level offices and then let them drop the facade. We'll call it a Reverse Sinema. And why the fark not at this point?

They're there because of all the people that moved to Atlanta over the last 20 years.

focus on the local races. Get people in those spots so we don't have my-kid-saw-kitty-litter-for-students shat going, the school boards and town councils. Let those who are doing good there run for state legilslative spots. Meanwhile, at the top, state-wide races, run the most progressive democrats you can so that they get a voice, and provide some balance to the insanity of the republicans, and make those local democrats sound good. Keep the focus on things people care about - schools, support, roads. Show people they can have a choice.

Most of all, stop shoving former republicans out there. Between a former republican and a current one, they'll pick the current one.

The Democratic party in Florida ignored Hispanic voters, and when Hispanic voters made a lunge to the right, they told the national party to not worry about because it was just an "aberration". And look where that got us. Then the entire Democratic party got behind the idea that Charlie Crist would absolutely be their nominee for governor, even though he lost as a republican, as an independent, and as a democrat in previous elections. So... with the party backing Christ...he won the primaries... And as anyone with an IQ above a piece of broccoli could have told you, he'd lost disastrously in the election. So the Democrats in Florida are a microcosm of the problem  with all Democrats nationally. It's the same mindset that had all eight years of the Obama administration the Democrats saying that Hillary would be next and ignoring all of the warning signs that she was not just vulnerable.... But catastrophically vulnerable. The Florida Democrats have farked this over every which Way imaginable.

Don't respond to false rightwing talking points. A lot of old people move to Florida - but there is no trend of people "fleeing to red states" - not statistically anyway. Thew will try to fool you with raw numbers - but most of the most populous states are blue states.
These people are literally so stupid that they will cite that more people move form Mississippi to California than the reverse in the belief that it indiicates some sort of preference for Mississippi.
