Not cool

Management of the iconic skyscraper is shrugging off the uproar over its lighting of the building's spire in the green-and-white colors of the Philadelphia Eagles - saying they are a "global brand" not beholden to city loyalty

is this like when the san diego chicken changed it's name to 'the famous chicken'?

now it'll just be 'the famous building'

I'm sure there is a link from a sane website about this, but it probably wouldn't get green-lit

They're gonna grease up the building so Philadelphians can't climb it?

Why would East Rutherford Giants and Jets fans care about the Empire State Building lights anyway? Weird

"New York fans should protest the team the Giants put on the field."

Love it

They were just checking if the green and white lights still worked. It's not like the Jets have given them any reason to use them for the last 40 years.

If they're going to light it up with the KC's colours if they win then I don't really see what the big deal is. Do any New Yorkers actually care about this? Or is this just Philadelphia peoples trying to dunk on their larger metropolitan neighbor to the north?

I think they already did light it up with KC colors after they won the afccg.
Philly's zeitgeist is very much shaped by being next to the country's biggest and most significant city. The gravity of NY and its media is just so powerful that Philly, an amazing, cosmopolitan, international city in it's own right, cannot escape it. You can see it in the local media which has a oddly provincial tone at times. NYers expect to hear from others all the time about NY, whereas Philly people are almost surprised when they do. So the latter probably care a lot more about this than the former.
Fun test: Tell people from each of these cities that you have been to the other, but not theirs. Compare and contrast reactions.

/more interested in seeing City Hall lit up

"...The Empire State Building will continue its annual practice of being a virtual scoreboard for the Super Bowl..."
--- They're not the "official " virtual scoreboard for the Super Bowl! Sounds like the NFL should file a lawsuit if the owners of the building are advertising themselves as such.

Judging by your post, you're not gonna like the results of my doing that.

/has actually been to Philly multiple times, it's just fun seeing people from PA reacting to someone from NJ claiming to have never been to Philly
//harder to claim I've never been to NYC, can see it from my window and have family there
