When I leave for work it's supposed to drop into the teens.

When I get out of work? It's supposed to be -11.

Stay Safe!

Remember: Do NOT shovel snow if you have a history of heart disease or randomly beating people to death with snow shovels.  Stock food that you can eat without cooking or refrigerating in case the power goes out. Ideally, it should be magic food that also keeps you from freezing to death.  When shoveling snow, if you feel tightness in the chest or dizziness, STOP IMMEDIATELY... unless you enjoy tightness in the chest or dizziness.  And, most important:

If you use a snowblower before eight o'clock in the morning, wear a kevlar vest because your neighbors WILL try to shoot you.

I did get a mild shock last year, though...I stopped on the way to a game night to grab a small regular at a Dunks in Needham, and the (very) young gal behind the counter said they were out of coffee.

Never heard that one in 40 years...

Bemused, I wandered back to my car, and then the manager literally runs out to me, with a complimentary coffee in hand, explaining that she was brand new, didn't know where the extra urns were  :)

You know about opening up cabinets to improve heat flow and leaving faucets trickling so pipes don't freeze? (depending on how well insulated your place is)

I lived off grid in a tiny house and snagged a U.S. Marine down filled sleeping bag for $3 at a summer church sale. Used it until I bought a farm house on 5 acres.
Then it got rolled tight, and put in the Subaru for emergency gear.

It was -35 one morning in NH a couple of years ago, and routinely gets in to the -10s to -20's. It all starts to feel the same when it dips below 10 above zero, but my manual transmission starts to get a little sluggish to shift when it goes real low.

If you haven't already, you might want to look into a full-synthetic transmission oil. Made a world of difference in my dearly missed Subaru's five speed - not perfec, but I could actually get it into first when it was cold after I made the switch.

1st of all:  That is townie news at 5.  There's a huge portion of the population that gets all their news from En-Pee-Awww (not en-pee-ahh,  those people are townies, we enunciate clearly when we aren't molded to speak with Midcentury Harvard Lockjaw.)  The other part of the population speaks insufferably and at length  on the macroeconomic impact of one closed local business, cites historical precedent back to their first ancestor (Jamestown 1633, tyvm!) and concludes by offering bergamot tea to anyone within earshot.

Oh and at least one person listening will be wearing something completely unseasonable, like khaki shorts, a beretta hunting cape and a cashmere beanie.

One of them involved a Market Basket closing, which was silly enough that I had to ask my Boston based coworkers what the hell is wrong with people over there

Wasn't too bad dropping the kids off this morning, but the winds have started kicking up and random dead brush and debris is blowing across the yard. Stocked the pantry and fridge, got the fixings for a good chicken pot pie to be cooked tomorrow, and re-filled the bird feeders and suet for those poor bastards. Fingers crossed that the dance studio calls off classes tonight and tomorrow so we can just get the girls home from school and hunker down until Sunday.

/I know, I know, cold story bro...
