If he actually made pizzas for 17 years I don't think he was posing.

The fact that he named himself after a famous mobster and openly ran a popular restaurant and it still took them 17 years to arrest him is insane.

He practically called it "Shady Sal's Definitely Not a Mob Front Pizza" and it still took them almost two decades. Epic trolling, I guess.

Maybe the pizza was that damn good. I'm honestly curious now.

He looks like a stereotype of an Italian American mob boss. Even the smirk.

If you have been making pizzas for 17 years, are you still pretendingto make pizzas? Hell, I'd venture to say if you've been making pizzas for a hour, you're no longer posing as a pizza maker....You're just a pizza maker.

They probably didn't deliver, only took cash, were open like 4 hours a day and took an hour to make your
pie....He probably had his mom stirring sauce for hours for the two or three pizzas they might make a day...

Both Goodfellas and Casino show these type of "front" businesses for laundering cash..

Is it typical of made men to be referred to as 'clansmen' on that side of the water?

Seems odd when you say it out loud.

Maybe he's a pizza maker with a side gig with the mob. Why is being a mobster always the first thing people think of?

I wonder how they caught him - a tip off, or due to his appearing online. Wouldn't surprise me if police forces capture images from social media & news sites and run it through facial recognition software looking for hits.

Marge: But you're just perpetuating a negative Italian-American stereotype. I mean, you could be a pizza man, organ grinder, leaning-tower maker, and did I say pizza man?
Fat Tony: You are listing my broken dreams.

A hit man for the notorious Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia has been arrested working in a pizzeria in France after nearly 17 years on the run.

Police say the first clue was finding more naked men in closets than at CPAC.

It's in the article: He was in the news several times, and his alias was the real name of an old, obscure mobster.  I bet a good portion of people that recognized the old mobster's name also recognized this guy's face.

Yeah, the article says it's believed that his dumb alias is what clued the cops in.
