All she asks, is: "You find something that doesn't belong to you, don't keep it."

But that is contrary to the ancient legal principle of Finderus Keeperus Loserus Weeperus.

Did the envelope say Bailey Building and Loan on it? Uncle Billy and George have been looking all day.

You and everybody else.

For every person that reports finding thousands of dollars, there are a hundred that don't.

If there is identification I am giving it back. If there is no identification I am going to put it in a savings account and not touch it for at least 10 years, on the off chance some important people come looking it. And then I will give it to them, with the interest.

I would tell the cops I found an undisclosed sum of money more than 2000 and if anyone reports it missing, they can call me with a description of where they may have lost it, and how much.  At least in my state, that's how it works.  You have to hold it for some amount of time.

2023-02-02 8:54:24 PM
If it's  $100 you keep it.
If it's $10,000 you han it in.
If it's $100,000 you walk away briskly and hope to hell that no one ever saw you.

Man, there are a lot of crooked Farkers. The money isn't yours -- why do you feel entitled to it? Shame, shame, shame.

Coming back from the dog park one day, I spotted a wallet in the middle of the street. The mail delivery lady also saw it. I picked it up, and was gonna head down to the police office and drop it off. I decided to look for some ID, and discovered the person who lost it lived right up the street. Parked in front of their house, rang the bell, and said, "Are you missing something?" They didn't even know they had lost it.

Gotta get those brownie points to offset the bad stuff you did when you were young.

someone I know, may be a dip$#!T uncle... found an envelope with $4-5K in it in the Detroit airport parking lot as he stepped out of his car. He parked next to a big Caddy, saw the envelope and kicked it under his car. He said two guys looked like they were retracing their steps frantically looking for something on the ground.

I don't remember much other than he said he counted the money in the plane's restroom.

In high school a narcotics officer came to our class and gave two marijuana cigarettes for us to pass around (unlit, of course) so we'd recognize what it looks like. He said, "Now, if I don't get both of those joints passed back up here at the end of class, I'll have to search everyone before you leave."

By the end of class, a dozen joints had gotten passed up to the front.

So the lady found an envelope with $45,000 in cash and turned the entire $30,000 over to the cops and the cops returned the $15,000 to the owner. How heartwarming.

The more money there is, the more likely I am to return it. I don't need that kind of stress in my life.
$20? I'll pocket that. $20K? No way.

Fist off - its againt the law to keep something that you find, including money - its called theft by finding

Second of all there are cameras everywhere - im not necessarily afraid of god, but i would be pretty nervous when the attorneys showed that video of my face when i knowingly pick up a few grand and stuff it under my shirt as im slinking home to later spend it all on hookers and blow

It would be almost impossible to get away with trying to keep found money these days - you would have to try really hard to conceal your efforts - and the harder you would try to conceal your efforts only makes their case against you even stronger because you are acknowledging you took something that isn't yours and are trying to hide it

Whether its the right or moral thing really isn't much of a question. Its just plain stupid.

You know what the wife and I did with some of our wedding cash on the way home the day after we got married in '01?

Bought a PS2, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, 4 controllers, and the 4 tapper.

I spent a good Saturday night 2 years ago repairing/readjusting the laser to get the PS2 to read disks again. The 4 controllers are long gone.  I can't get the 4 tapper to work anymore, but still have it.  $10 wireless controllers work just fine for the PS2.  And for Christmas this year, I finally got the PS2 to HDMI adapter.  Because using the RCA connection doesn't work right at all.  Picture is way too dark.

Yes, Mrs.4335 and I played a crapload of Gauntlet since Christmas.

If you're trying to test my honesty by leaving $20,000 outside on the ground somewhere, so I can find it and turn it in, do us both a favor and try another way.

Because the worlds best eagle scout would fail that test.

I was reading an article about lottery winners and the how it negatively affected their lives.
The first guy to win several hundred million dollars, I think he was from Tennessee had a lot of bad stuff happen. Family members died of drug overdoses...
In the press conference when he won, he stated that he could do so much good for his church w/that money.
Shortly after winning, he left the strip club to find that his truck had been broken into and his briefcase containing $450k was missing.
He went back inside to call the cops and by the time he got back outside, the briefcase had been returned and not a dollar was missing.
They speculated that whomever it was that took the case, figured it belonged to a mobster and they hoped that broken glass wasn't enough to kill them over.
