Hell, I found a 1st gen in the box (used obv.) in the junk bin the other day. There was also a box for a 160g iPod, but no player. That was disappointing.

I've got one sitting here on my desk. Still works. Hasn't been used in 4 or 5 years. Only on my desk because I needed to get music off it a couple months ago. Probably still have the box. 30 pin cable functions but has seen better days.

Ghastly: Money laundering is so weird.

Yeah, international buyer and customs will open it like a graded Nintendo box.

I've got a Zune around here somewhere. Surely a collector's item by now.

why would anyone pay more than $20 at this point?

It seems kinda cool.  I mean you could frame it and hang it, as a kind of modern tech pop art.  But I already have lots of that and all in all this would just be another brick on my wall.

You're just mad that nobody's willing to pay 10% of that for a mint Pixel or Nexus or Kin or nGage or whatever stupid thing. Like it or not, Apple stuff holds value.

I mean, I wouldn't buy this for even 1% of the estimate. Maybe for $100 as a gee-whiz thing. It's entirely useless at this point, because if the battery hasn't swelled up and ruined the phone, at least it will be totally inert; no modern computers will connect to it, and even if you could get music on it you're limited to 4GB or something pathetic; it's probably SIM locked, and even if it did power on and take a SIM from the right network (Cingular/AT&T in the US I think), GSM and even 3G have been dead for a while now; even if you got it to work on wifi, the App Store wouldn't have any apps you could put on it, and that's assuming it even allows iOS 1 or whatever to connect.

Basically it belongs in a museum because it has no actual value outside of collectors who'll put it in a little shrine. Some YouTube person may buy it to do an unboxing and/or blow it up just to make fanbois cry, but otherwise this thing will continue to sit in its sealed box forever.
