Sounds like the right decision for that loafer. How long does it take to ring up 2 PS5s anyway?

Frankly they should all just quit and leave GameStop in the lurch.  Either way their getting canned, might as well make a point to upper management, et. al.

While neither produced a visible gun, Det. Michael Munch told Kotaku that the employee was told to put his hands up and that he wouldn't get hurt if he didn't move.

I thought Detective Munch retired.

They need to make devices that require online services use a merchant activation process. Go to sign in with a device stolen from the merchant and it's a brick.

IIRC, at least one brand of smart TV now requires a one-time activation to ensure that they didn't fall off the back of a freight truck.  I wouldn't be surprised to see this trend continue with other highly targeted electronics.

Didn't thieving morons learn from all of the Apple store heists that stolen gadgets get bricked remotely the first time they connect to the internet?

You would think that the store would have all of the serial numbers on file from when they checked in the inventory and Sony could just blacklist the consoles from accessing the store and other online services.

I thought *maaaaaybe* there was some kind of "ring it up as loss" (later) thing so numbers would match up, which he didn't so.

Nope. GameStop is just a piece of shiat.

Because I want the nose-picking dipshiat asking me 84 different up-sell questions to be yet another point of failure when I finally get him to stop asking for my damn e-mail address.

"Yes, I have a phone plan. it's $4 a year for 80 billion Terabytes. Can I go now?"

The console industry in general has pushed back hard against online required sorts of DRM. I can't imagine they'd take well to consoles requiring registration and online confirmation for activation even it is was just a one time thing.

What the actual fark?   Firing the manager over the theft makes no sense at all on multiple levels.

1. The guy was not even in the store at the time of the Robbery.
2. The reasoning for the firing might make a bit of sense if you fired the worker in question.
3. The store getting robbed should never be grounds for firing anyone unless an employee was in on it.
4. Gamestop should have insurance to cover that loss, though would not be much surprised if they cheaped out on that.

For those talking about bricking the Ps5s not gonna matter much to thieves as they likely unloaded them that same day for cash to someone who is gonna sell them for more, likely to the end users of them.

There is a difference between:
1. Requiring online activation, and;
2. Having online firmware updates pushed to specific serial numbers that brick a unit.

I haven't gone into a Best Buy in a long time.  Is checkout still a shiat show of attempting to sell warranties?

I shopped at Target last week. A ring toss game was two small plastic cones and 8 colored plastic rings, for $5. The self checkout offered a 2-year toy warranty for $3.

It makes perfect sense if the company's goal is to no longer pay the salary of a manager with 13 years of experience in the job.

I always tell them I don't need the warranty because I'm just going to blow it up for a YouTube video.

I wonder if Sony can remotely brick consoles that have been reported stolen.

The Geek Squad was the worst.  One time I caught a great promotional deal on a cheap laptop for like $200 bucks.  They kept trying to get me to pay $100 dollars to have them make a backup disk... I kept saying no, finally I said "Look, I'm just going to format the thing and put Ubuntu on it when I get home anyway" and they started doing it anyway.  I walked out of the store at that point.  Paid a little bit more for a cheap laptop from Microcenter.

The only way this would be justified was if this manager was taking it out on the employee who got robbed and somebody called the anonymous corporate line on him.  Given that all his other workers pretty much quit after he got shiatcanned that's probably not what happened though.

Dude is probably better off, 13 years experience managing a shop, even GameStop, looks damn good on a resume and now he can start anew at a place that will still be in business in 5 years.

Nah, those are just Harbor Freight tools, they aren't supposed to actually work in the first place.

I don't think I would ever buy a power tool from Harbor Freight.  I've bought pipe and crescent wrenches, Allen Keys, screwdrivers etc... from them though.  The last factory I worked at had a material that would harden up and ruin pretty much everything after a while.  No point to spending money on quality hand tools.

But yeah, I would occasionally look at the power tools for a laugh.  A welder for 50 bucks?  That sounds like a great way to get electrocuted and start a fire!

True but that does not stop it being a crappy thing to pull, but then again it is gamestop,

Milwaukee has this feature. I forget what it's called. Probably a good idea, but I'm torn between being paranoid about my coworkers stealing my shiat, and being paranoid about my tools bricking themselves 4 years later when some chips set gets damaged because I didn't baby my tools.

If they get fired "for cause" they might not get unemployment.
