I need to know a CIO's golf handicap before I can tell you how effective they'll be.

Per the article, this was decided before the meltdown.  Bad move.

What you want is a person with the technical knowledge to know what needs to be done, and the political skills to make sure it gets done.  Presumably, there's no one in Southwest's current IT leadership team that has both.

What a strange way to (not) deal with GDPR. The page and all the tracking clearly loaded behind the overlay. In fact, hitting refresh and stopping the page load lets me see everything.

Maybe just let people choose their data privacy?

That's typical.  Mayo Pete escapes again.

Woods replaces senior vice president and chief information officer Kathleen Merrill, who decided to retire in December and move into an executive adviser role.

In any company that isn't in the "IT" business, this is typical.

Because anyone with the actual IT knowledge generally isn't considered "management material". And anyone that is management material doesn't have any IT knowledge.

My experience has been that the issue is, good IT people are all about making things work in the most efficient and supportable way possible. This conflicts with the general attitude of management, which is usually some variation on "Let's do this as quickly and cheaply as possible so I can get my bonus".
