"people confused the Coronavirus pandemic for the Zombie apocalypse"

To be fair, that was an easy mistake to make.

Much of the data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives report hasn't been widely available before, and its release is aimed at helping police and policy makers reduce gun violence,

And because neither really seem to have any interest in doing that, they figured what the hell.

Is it that only police only solve 2% of all crimes reported?

Bad comparison, one was designed (poorly) to keep people safe, the other was designed from the ground up to kill.

"The report shows 54% of guns that police recovered in crime scenes in 2021 had been purchased within three years, a double-digit increase since 2019. The quicker turnaround can indicate illegal gun trafficking or a straw purchase - when someone who can legally purchase a gun buys one to sell it to someone who can't legally possess guns. The increase was driven largely by guns bought less than a year before, it said."

SCOTUS: Gun laws don't work, so we're repealing them.

There is a reason why you cannot go into CVS and buy Methamphetamine off the shelf.

It's dangerous. Not only to the individual, but to society as a whole as it can make you do dangerous things like eating someone else's face.

Guns are the same. They're dangerous to the community and to the self, just like methamphetamine is.

2023-02-02 7:40:37 PM
Most guns used in crimes changed hands since their purchase, the report states. It also found what Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco called an epidemic of stolen guns: more than 1.07 million firearms were reported stolen privately soldbetween 2017 and 2021. Almost all of those, 96%, were from private individuals.

Meanwhile, the report also documents a more than five-fold increase in the number of devices that convert a legal semi-automatic weapon into an illegal fully automatic one. Between 2012 and 2016, the ATF retrieved 814 of those, but that number jumped to 5,414 during the five-year period documented in the report.

This seems fine, nothing but Responsible Gun Owners in this report.

Meth isn't a weapon of self-defense.

They both give the user a rush of euphoria when used. Yes, firearms can be used for self-defense. But they're still very dangerous.

This bag of meth hasn't hurt anyone, it is an inanimate object, meth doesn't kill people, people kill people.

The corona pandemic wasn't a zombie apocalypse?  Then what explains all the brain dead corona infected corpses walking around spreading the virus.  All the zombies that appear to be compelled by some foreign biology to congregate in large crowds instead of locking the fark down.  Using excuses like a big boat as a reason to go outside in a mega city, instead of locking the fark down.  Saying that cloth masks make it so they literally can't breath.  They could breath anyways, because they are zombies.  They don't have metabolism.  They only simulate breathing to expell the virus and infect and kill more people.

Sure, some of those could be dumb people.  But not all of them.  There is no way the majority of NYC would be dumb enough to not lock down just to see a big boat.  During a pandemic.  Sure, if it were a maga hive, like Floriduhhhh, yeah.  But it isn't.

Evidence points to a zombie apocalypse, and this is just the overmasters trying to gas light us back to turning the world engine.

Gun culture is pretty messed up.  One year for Christmas, my parents gave me an AR-15.  As a Christmas gift.  I didn't want one, I didn't ask for one, they just gave it to me.  Luckily I knew of a gun store that buys used guns so I got rid of it, but still.  Who the fark gives away guns as a Christmas gift?

You really want to make the ammo-sexual's heads assplode?  Prohibit the sale of semi-auto XM5 rifles and the 6.8 mm cartridge that it fires which is now replacing the M-16 series of weapons that have been in service for 60 years.  Yup, that great new rifle and cartridge that the it fires are for the military ONLY.  Your puny AR-15s are no longer a match for the government.  Now go home and suck it.

Not for you, can't have it.

You wouldn't even have to pass a law.  The reason everybody and his mother can produce AR-15s is because Colt's patents on the AR-15/M16 series expired long ago.  Sig holds the design rights to that gun.   All the Biden administration has to do is tell Sig, "If you want more phat military contracts, you can't sell that design on the civilian market and you can't license it to anyone who wants to sell to civilians."

Most of those 'stolen' guns are actually 'straw' purchases.   Baby-daddy can't pass a NIC check so he sends baby mama down to Sleaze-O-Mart to pick up a bag of chips, a six-pack and a Hi-Point.   Three days later baby-mama hears that baby-daddy got into 'situation' and she calls the cops and reports that somebody stole her gat, also denies she knows baby-daddy.

I am sorry to point this out but the dichotomy of this concept is stunning.
15000 ghost guns are more of an issue than 1 million legitimate guns being "stolen" to be used with criminal intent?
When you live in a country awash with legitimate firearms used for violence on a regular basis, stomping on a tiny fraction that aren't considered good guns is just inconsequential to the end result of dead school children, mass shootings and the veneration of all things boomstick like.

The "Gun Lobby" has all but dried up at this point. Oil and Insurance are still huge though.

The problem with inaction on gun violence isn't due to the money anymore, it's due to the tribalism that the NRA spent years engendering and the "brand" that comes with their report card, and the fact that the NRA became a de facto organ of the Republican party back in the 80's. They haven't been able to spend too much lobbying ever since the rubles dried up.

Case and point for the tribalism? In 2012 the NRA endorsed the governor who signed the most restrictive and invasive gun control bill in US history against the first President in a century to EXPAND gun owner rights.
