(Slate)   Our political divide has led to the Great National Prayer Breakfast Schism of 2023, which has resulted in us needing to have two separate prayer breakfasts instead of just one. So now both sides can do something equally useless on their own   (slate.com) divider line

Splitters!

Love the deflection that "it's a long way across town".  It's closer to the Capital than the Vice President's home is.

They can't just say it's become a "meet the Russians" breakfast and that's just bad optics right now.

If they called them a flemmish, no one would eat them.

So, instead of one big lobbying event, it has become two.

The real show will happen when god realizes he's got two breakfasts at the same time on opposite sides of town. It's like a sitcom plot.

The conservatives were dis-invited after they tried to get everyone to pray for the elimination of non-whites and gays.  I'm kidding I'm kidding, the dem leadership is much too cowardly to stand up to something like that.

Schism! At the Prayer Breakfast

Okay, that got a chuckle.  But in general can we just get rid of the National Prayer Breakfast nonsense entirely?  It was conceived by rich assholes who wanted a venue to invite other business leader assholes and plot against unions.

2023-02-02 8:59:11 AM
I'd rather no one went to events sponsored by The Family.  But good luck ending something with 'prayer' in the name.

At the recent Michael Flynn / Clay Clark Reawaken America tour event there were multiple prophets speaking as god at the same time.

"This "breakfast," which is actually a two-day series of events, has been rebranded as "the Gathering"

Never going to happen, the conservatives are devolving, or with the more moderate leaving the churches what is left is concentrated shiat.

These.  This National Prayer Breakfast thing has always been shifty.

2023-02-02 9:01:42 AM
For its entire 70-year history, the National Prayer Breakfast has been hosted by the mysterious International Foundation, or Fellowship Foundation, which is known colloquially as "The Family" or "The Fellowship."

That was until the Triad of Inner Strength was exposed as a sham philosophy that preyed on the weak and rudderless, and its leaders slain before the Black Gate.

/not obscure

To bad there are no terrorist organizations with the balls to take down the whole building with everyone in it.

If every church in the US were to disappear tomorrow, the world would be a better place for a very long time.

There's a reason why they don't let anyone underage into the event.

I'd also enjoy seeing Congressional Muslims crash both breakfasts with pointed questions about the evangelical Protestantism baked in to these events and foundations.

The question they ask about how lack of religion means you're allowed to rape and murder as much as you want because there's no consequences for you after you die is very revealing about the mindset these people have.

It's a shame there's no separation of church and state in this country that would make these sort of gatherings unethical at the very least.

2023-02-02 9:06:50 AM
Its not useless. It is a vehicle for the Christian Nationialists to influence Congress and leaders of other nations. It is actively farking evil. It is sponsored by The Family, aka The Fellowship, aka the right wing Christian Cult in DC that a disturbingly large number of Congresscritters belong to. Remember the Kill the Gays bills in Uganda? The Family through their influential Congresspeople got those bills passed. This is a cult that claims that Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc were chosen by God because of their power. It is abhorrent that it even exists.

Someone Else's Alt: If every church in the US were to disappear tomorrow, the world would be a better place for a very long time.

If you think about what would actually happen in that case, I doubt things would improve. The social panic and extreme disruption would probably bring down the country, or end up launching nukes and brining down the world.

I would be very interested to see where Black Christians are here. I suspect this Christian nationalism is also as Mayonnaise as it gets.

I was going to say about the breakfasts---clearly in heaven there is no beer, if there's no fried food.

Give Old Nick credit for salesmanship, anyway. He whips up a damn good breakfast spread in exchange for your soul.
