Blackout dates apply... to any time you actually want to fly and to any place you actually want to fly.

But the Amarillo to Phoenix route is open from June 18th-June 21st!

But you also can't even book that until June 17, so there's no telling if there will be seats available.

Maybe a fun deal if you're extremely flexible & cheap (like my Canadian girlfriend). But for people who make plans & choices, it sounds very frustrating.

Has anyone had any positive experiences on Frontier to share? Even my notorious cheapskate coworker said "it's like a school bus in the sky" in reference to the comfort and reliability.

So like American's AAirpass, but with a monthly fee instead of a flat one?

How did that end up going in the long term?

Man, this is the only airline I avoid entirely. Cannot imagine this will end well for anyone.

I had a fine time with them.  It was also in 2006 before they went ultra low cost.

I've never had a bad experience with frontier but I've never had a good experience too. I always found it really stressful to use them out of IAH. The ticket counter for bag drop/tickets would open 45 mins before the flight then the same person at the ticket counter would run to the gate and be your gate agent. I was never certain if the counter had yet to open or if I'd missed the 5 minute window to check my bag. Never minded buying a snack/drink on the plane but all that was back before I had kids.

A coworker of mine had to take a business trip to Ottawa two weeks ago.  Someone said "Ottawa in January?  Ouch.  At least it's not Winnipeg."

I'm sort of expecting a bag fee, a soda fee, a WiFi fee, getting out of the plane fee, etc.

/Checking, I see that they actually do fly from Amarillo.

They're doing their part to dispel the notion that flying is safer than driving.

That's certainly... something. Wow. I hope they didn't turn around and put on the captain's hat next.

"But you can skate to work!"

We worked with an ad agency based in Ottawa and they actually tried to sell us on that feature. Our company was based in Orlando.

We discussed this back when they rolled out the all-year pass. It's a terrible deal just designed to get them some press attention. It only covers the airfare, not taxes and fees, which the way Frontier structures its prices are a high percentage the cost. Also domestic flights can only be booked the day before so you can't really book a round-trip, only the first leg, so you don't know if you can get a return flight when you want it.

I don't think they're allowed to include the taxes and fees. You have to pay those using frequent flyer miles too.

I work from home with a four day work week, have easy access to Chicago's Blue line to ORD, have friends in Denver, Atlanta, Tampa and LA and I've mastered the art of living out of a carry on with all my photo gear.

This is extremely tempting to me.

I got a Amtrak 30 day rail pass last month when it was $200 off for a week. The local airport isn't a Frontier hub. This may take a great deal of planning but i am retired and using both could be great or just hour after hour sitting here trying to shuffle routes. Damn i torn over buying this or not.

Bovine Diarrhea Virus: Is Frontier better or worse than Allegiant?  Because I cannot imagine a worse experience than flying Allegiant.
When I pilot makes two landing attempts and on the third try says "We're going to try to land one more time", it kind of turns you off to flying ever again.

I have to hear more about this story. Did the pilot report anything unusual ahead of time? What happened on the first two attempts, a bounce off the runway and back into the air again? Which airport were you flying into?

People who don't pay for their travel anyway are going to be excited by unlimited use on a budget airline?

2023-02-02 12:53:55 PM
So on domestic flights you still got to pay nearly $15 in taxes and fees on each flight still. And much more on international flights.

If you want to choose your seat then you will need to pay a fee that varies but on average is around $30 bucks for each flight.

If you want to carry on a suitcase then this is another $30 for each flight (on average).

If you want snacks or drinks onboard then this is an additional fee.

Suddenly this $399 unlimited pass for the summer is not looking so cheap when you will also be paying around $75 for each domestic flight as well.   Seeing that other budget airlines regularly have flights at times below $100 one way which includes snacks/drink, carry-on and selecting your seat.

Ok.  Here we go......
Flying from PIE to USA early in the morning.  There was fog in Concord, NC, but we took off from St. Petersburg.  Normal flight.  Minimal turbulence.  Started our approach into Concord.  Heard the landing gear extend.  Pilot aborted the approach and circled for another approach.  Lined up for another approach. Couldn't see jacksh*t anywhere.  Aborted the approach again and tried to line up for a third approach. Pilot came on the intercom and stated, "We're going to try to land one more time".  During the approach, a forest of either cell phone towers or radio towers appeared through the clouds.  The pilot banked right, accelerated, and we diverted to Savannah to refuel.  We never touched the ground during the landing attempts.
We landed in Savannah 45 minutes later to refuel.  A couple of people actually tried to get off the plane, but the flight attendants said no one is allowed to leave the plane.  We were stuck.  Finally took over an hour later and made our way to Concord.  Pilot came on the intercom and said, "We are going to try one more time to land in Concord".  Not really sure what the alternative was if we couldn't land.  Landed without incident.
It was a miserable, terrifying flight, and I will never fly Allegiant again.  Part of the issue is definitely me. I hate flying, and that flight put me over the edge.

Side note: Anyone know how/why Concord got the letters USA?

I live in Kansas City, not a hub for Frontier but they service here.  I go to Colorado a lot, as I have family there.  It looks like most of the flights would force me to stay overnight in Vegas to go back and forth.  I have to go to Portland, Or in this spring, and same deal layovers of over 12 hours.   As much as I want to, ill pass and stay with Southwest (just as long as they dont shut down for 4 days again)

Well, let me put it to you this way:

AirTran changed it's name from ValuJet because of a plane that went down in the Everglades.

Frontier merged with AirTran.

Management thinking is based on AirTran.

Oh, okay. So they're setting themselves up to turn away people who buy this and then manage to get time off for a specific window and stuff. No chance of this blowing up in their faces in 9 months like a set of in vitro octuplets.

I mean, you know what you're getting. If it's a weekend trip, fine. Just pack lightly. Would I do it on an L.A. to S.F. weekend trip to save the time that I would have spent driving, especially when it would cost me as much to gas up as to fly? Sure.

Would I do a cross-country flight with them? Not very likely at all.

What could possible go wrong? if there is EVER a flight cancelation due to weather or whatever other reason, or if you happen to miss your connection you'll be royally farked because every other plane frontier flies will have been filled up the day prior by these "unlimited" ticket holders and you'll have a three-day wait minimum before they can find a free seat to rebook you into.

That definitely sounds nerve wracking. Know that being diverted to land elsewhere is pretty rare. Even as a frequent flier, I'd be on edge too if the pilot ever said something about "we're going to try" something over the intercom. Keep that uncertainty out of the passengers' ears!
