I'm pretty sure NASA knows what it's doing, but I'm still going to question the value of building a human-scale test environment when they can't simulate the gravity; that's going to be the absolutely biggest factor causing astronauts to have issues with coordination and movement.  They might be better off just watching the original lunar video and reading Apollo mission transcripts and astronaut interviews.

It's almost like there are other difficult conditions besides the lack of gravity.

Sadly, you're still illiterate since the last time you responded to one of my posts.  You going to continue stalking me thread to thread this time, too?

Oh, so you didn't say "I'm still going to question the value of building a human-scale test environment when they can't simulate the gravity"? That was someone else with your exact username?

Sure thing buddy.

"They might be better off just watching the original lunar video and reading Apollo mission transcripts and astronaut interviews."

Where the fark do you think they got the information to build the thing in the first place?

The fake Moon is technically made up of two large sandy areas filled with simulated lunar dust.

Like an old "Star Trek" set?

/oooh, i hope it has like big fake boulders, some matte paintings and some real weird lighting.

Apparently it does have weird lighting, as it simulates the Moon's surface light conditions

Well we now know what the "journalist" that Buzz Aldrin punched will be pointing in a few years when asked how the new missions were faked.

I hope they added Kirk's Rock somewhere.

Just finished reading Michael Benson's book, Space Odyssey, about the making of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. There's lot about the personalities involved, but also quite a bit about the people who actually made the film work...the artists, special effects people and how they convinced you that what you were seeing on the screen was real. And, remember, this was the 1960s. NASA approved*

Well worth the read, if you're thinking about going to the Moon without leaving Earth.

*not really

I just don't think NASA realizes the gravity of the situation

I know a guy: Wait... you believe in the moon?

On my worst days, yes.  Yes, I do.

F=GmM/r/ris all you need to know about gravity if you want to go to the Mion.
