That's actually kind of funny.

That being said, Fark Jony Ive. His quest for thinner gave Mac users unusable keyboards and minimal ports for no other reason than the never ending quest for  "Thin"

Nearly everything about Apple products screams "form over function".

MacOS has about a zillion stupid design decisions that have been around since the beginning. Everyone knows about them, and works around them. There is an entire cottage industry of software that fixes long-standing issues with MacOS. The only reason those issues still exist is because Apple seems to think their way is more "elegant".

And their hardware just flat-out sucks. It's *good*, but quality control is terrible.

All that said, I appreciate Apple for what they do. I just wish they tried harder. They control *the whole damn platform* from top-to-bottom. Their products should be way more amazing than they actually are. Instead, you get really pretty hardware and applications that are kind-of annoying to use as soon as you don't follow Apple's "blessed path".

not a good design. you end up with a weird shadow in the nose regardless of your POV.

red foam was always fine.
and worked better
and cheaper
and less pollute-y

CSB: I learned about Red Nose Day years ago on a visit to London. I was crossing the Millennium Bridge when a silly person in a clown wig and red nose ran past me the other way. (?!) Then another. Then dozens. On the other side of the bridge was a marathon booth with water and info, and the kind people there clued me in.

The kids and I came up with a horror story idea called "The Honkus" about an alien that looks like a red clown nose and attaches itself to people who slowly morph into clowns.

I'm curious as to what aftermarket "fixes" are being made to correct issues in MacOS.

I use Windows and MacOS machines, and I don't find any annoyances in MacOS that I feel I need to find an aftermarket solution to resolve. Nor do I find anything that gets in my way where I have to "work around" an issue.

Yeah, I'd be kind of interested to know some specific examples, too. There is (was, at least) a tool called Onyx that would let you tweak lots of under-the-hood stuff, but macOS is perfectly useable without it. As for the hardware, I bought my first MacBook in 2007, and only replaced it in 2014 because it wouldn't take the latest OS update. Which is actually something that Apple deserves to be criticised for. My brother went through several Windows laptops in that period.

Also, this. I do like macOS because it's actually genuine desktop Unix, so you can always drop to a shell to do Unixy stuff. But I currently don't own a Mac, my desktop PC is Windows, never owned an iPhone, always been on Android, got a Chromebook. Just use what works for you in whichever circumstances you need.

/Although, speaking of having to install aftermarket tweaks, it's always useful to use a debloat tool on Windows to turn off telemetry and strip out a lot of the shiat.

Switch the nose to a wig, and that was a great* Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode!
