"It will be, in principle, the way he operated in Green Bay, which I'm sure he'll tell you evolved," Jones said.

While I'm sure that's what Mike will tell you it was certainly not the case. Same plays every damn year. Once defenses figure out the personnel and the formation those plays got stopped cold.

Hahahaha... they won't win a single game.

That's awesome!

Andy Reid is the best example of a coach who evolved to keep ahead of defenses.

McCarthy is the best example of this used to work, let's keep on doing it.

The offseason and summer is a long, long time. Just plan out all the season's plays at that point and you're ready to go.

Are we sure Jerry doesn't absolutely hate Dak for some reason?

The slide toward become late stage Al Davis just keeps getting clearer.

The Walrus has a crazy track record coming off bye/off weeks.  Had to look it up to get it right.. 27-4.  Super Bowl week is kinda a bye week, so we'll see what he comes up with.

For quite a while I thought as soon as Al left the organization or died things would get much better.
I'm still waiting for much better.

It certainly doesn't look like the Cowboys will be good enough to win it all next year so I guess it's a fine time to see if McCarthy has anything new. It wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him get fired if they fail to win at least one playoff game though.

That wasn't the buzz even a month ago. They were supposed to be a contender this year! Was there a moment of clarity watching them get eliminated, or are we sweeping away the expectations that grew all season?

The difference between how the national media talks about the cowboys and how local media/fans talk about the cowboys is massive. Sure I think the Cowboys are close-ish to being contenders and I think this last season fairly accurately illustrated where they stood as a team. Next season looks to be about the same though, if not a slight regression. So no, I don't think the Cowboys will be legit contenders. And no, as a Dallas-ish area fan it wasn't a recent realization.

He got fired by Green Bay then went to a lot of trouble re-inventing himself to get hired elsewhere and now he's going back to his old offense from Green Bay. You could see this from a mile away.

Something else we should have learned from Richard Nixon.

Mike Lombardi told a great story on a podcast, about his GM tenure with the Raiders in the 90s, poss 00s, when Al --- errrr, "MISTER Davis" was starting to get a little forgetful and memory loss-ish....

Late season practice. GM sees the defense put in an odd formation. The second team offense throws an uncontested TD on.  few plays later, defense puts the same formation in, once again resulting in a TD.  After practice, GM and the coach discuss practice, "hey, that weird formation, don't run that.  did you see what happened?"  "Got it."

Gameday. ahead by 3-4 points.  Other team has the ball.  GM, from the owners' box, sees the odd defensive formation.  "What the hell?"  BAM.  Touchdown, Raiders lose.  Postgame, Davis chews the GM's ass.  "What the hell was going on out there?  I want heads on a farking platter!"

Next day, GM calls the defensive coach/head coach, says Mr. Davis is furious.  "Guys!  What the hell?  We talked about that damn formation in practice! Mr. Davis is pissed!  He wants heads on a platter!  I'll do whatever I can to save your asses, just, I gotta know! Why did we put that formation in?"

"Mr. Lombardi, sir....Mr. Davis called from his suite, ordered us to run it. He says its a beautiful formation, and he wanted to see it in an actual game."

[in the telling]:  ".....suffice it to say, rest his soul, I was able to talk to Mr. Davis and spare the defensive coordinator's job.  And we missed the playoffs that year by one farking game."

I can't figure out why some plays are called by the "pros"
I guess Jerry came to the same conclusion

If McCarthy is calling the plays, why are they hiring an offensive coordinator?

Hue Jackson and paying five times more than he should have Carson Palmer didn't help in the immediate aftermath.
