So they're going to put parents in prison who seek medical care outside the state.

I mean, interstate commerce clause aside, who's going to take care of the kids with the parents in prison? Tennessee really does not have a good track record with kids in state custody.

"Culture war" issues are easy, because the rubes are gullible morons.  Real issues like education or healthcare are tough, and the GOP doesn't give a damn about them anyway.

I think the TN GOP does care about education, in that they're trying to take educational decisions out of the hands of elected school boards and hand them off to private corporations that don't answer to anyone except their stockholders.

https://progressive.org/public-schools-advocate/tennessee-is-about-take-school-privatization-extreme-spears-220309/

Other benefits are that they're free to discriminate against students with physical or learning disabilities, and can choose their own curriculum and ban whatever books they want.

The parents go to prison, the kids go to conversion camp then wind up with a minimum wage job or dead from suicide.  Win/win/win

Indeed.  Parents only have rights when they're doing what those religion-addled pigf*ck-ignorant hicks do.

How much do you think the legislators care about what happens to a trans kid? If they thought they could get away with it, they'd execute the kids before doing anything to punish the parents.

Tennessee will say the parents should have thought about that before deciding to make their children happier and have better self-esteem.

I'm sure that the "conservatives" are already busy lining up church-ran gay conversion camps where they get to praise Jeebus 24/7 in an effort to brainwash them into becoming good little closeted republicans like everyone else.

republicans in 2023 when asked if they're aware their actions will deliberately violate the Constitution while hurting innocent children/parents who are listening to a consensus of medical professionals instead of republican media.

Everyone should watch Strangio's brief testimony. He doesn't say "This is wrong"--as an active litigator against these bills in other states, he leads with how courts have already ruled against these laws and how much money the state stands to lose funding these lawsuits. He also points out the many ways in which the claims in the bill are completely false. I also like how he points out that this is a form of government overreach that is trying to dictate to parents what choices they can make in terms of their minor children's medical needs.

The point to being Republican isn't helping to solve problems to make constituents' lives better; it's ensuring that ppl your constituents don't like are living worse than they are.

At around 4 minutes in, a Republican lawmaker asks Strangio what changes to the bill he would recommend they make in order for it to stay within legal boundaries.

As if Strangio is gonna sit there and tell you how to make you Nazi bill pass muster.

I bet he thought his question was so clever, too. Of course Strangio is like, "I'm transgender and this treatment saved my life, so I recommend scrapping the whole thing."

Just three years ago the "debate" was over trans kids playing sports. Now every red state in the US is at war with the trans community, with hundreds of bills pending. Most are trying to make it illegal for those under 18 to transition, but a growing number raising it to age 26, or banning transgender care and other elements of the LGBTQ+ community entirely. This is nothing short of coordinated attempt at genocide by the GOP.

I knew a gal who was in Up With People. She said it was total slut-mania among the members when they went on tour, including quite a few gay kids. Just hookups galore. All in the name of Jesus.

Which makes 100% sense, performing for the plasterbrains in the audience while you act like normal theater kids backstage.

There is only ever the political will to crush the working class and further enrich the owners.

Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress and the White House.  They couldn't enshrine voting rights, or abortion rights, or the rights of non-hetero citizens.

But at least they managed to crush the rail workers unions and protect corporate profits.

Did you hear?  One of those rail companies is spending another billion dollars on stock buybacks with all the money they saved thanks to the Federal Government crushing the workers for them, and that's generating even higher profits for the shareholders!
