It's nice to see it happen. I don't know how we do it, but rebuttals and logic isn't going to change the course of the Rs. They're all in with Fascism.

What we're seeing in Florida is particularly hair-raising.

The problem is, these are easy rebuttals. AOC could have wiped the floor with him. It doesn't matter, it all happens where no one really sees it and everyone in that room knows that.

It's a slap fight and no one wins.

It's obvious that Mr. GQP mush-head has absolutely no f*cking idea what socialism is.

Now, a normal person would be ashamed and embarrassed of being publicly exposed that they are completely out of their depth, but not here, loud opposition to a phantom idea is incredibly popular and these useful idiots are more than happy to play along.

One of the reasons I submitted it, I want more people to see this, to see the abject humiliations of a would-be bully who ended up YEILDING HIS TIME rather than continue an argument he was losing so badly, And that  to a woman he called as a witness because he thought she'd be a punching bag because he'd internalized and genuinely believed the racist caricature of her that his party has created.

I wish we could put it on during the Super Bowl or something but it's tough to make people care about this stuff.

FlashHarry: a hearing to denounce socialism? what. the. fark.

.Our business today is to consider H. Con. Res. 9, sponsored by Representative Salazar of Florida. This concurrent resolution denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States.

In recent years, many American politicians have ignored the brutal history of socialism and have openly embraced the label of "socialist" or pushed socialist policies, despite the long history of human rights violations at the hands of socialist or communist regimes in pursuit of their ideology. The resolution before us condemns socialism, grieves the human loss at the hands of socialistic regimes and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States. America is a bastion of freedom and a beacon of hope to the rest of the world, and I hope my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will join us in supporting this resolution.

What the shiat indeed.

2023-02-01 10:47:55 AM
It's fortunate that these things happen and conservatives are exposed for their stupidity, or when someone drops zingers on them on twitter, and they get humiliated on other social media outlets because it takes the sting away from the fact people this stupid and ignorant and willfully flushing our nation down the toilet.

Jesus. My boner can only get so erect, and I bet the sphincter of every Republican in that room just tightened up hard enough to shiat a diamond.

BizarreMan: They aren't bright men.

This.  And this is what is so frustrating, as they are SO easy to outwit, to turn the tables on, to make look like absolute morons, and yet it so infrequently happens.

It should be a cakewalk for Democrats to slaughter the Republicans politically.  Just use their own words, their own stances.

But it is a rare occurrence.

Been happening more lately I suppose. Needs to happen more.

2023-02-01 10:50:37 AM
Waters then asked Langworthy if he believed the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was a socialist initiative, citing the number of Republicans in Congress who took funds from the PPP program. Langworthy said it was not a socialist initiative because it was done during "an extraordinary time when we shut down the government."

LOL stay in school, kid.

First of all Representative Langworthy sounds like a Porn Star name, and his head kind of plays along if you see what I mean.

Secondly Maxine Waters has been the butt of racist jokes from the GOP for something like 30-40 years. She is one sharp woman who knows her way around finance/banking/economy, and enjoys mopping the floor with racist rednecks from Texas, Ok, etc etc, so dis gone be fuun.

It's like when these waterheads used to go on the Daily Show thinking that Jon Stewart was just some dumb comic and that they'd be able to wipe the floor with them. Then he's immaculately prepped and wickedly quick and just burns them to the ground. Always delightful.

I thought the word "woke" was the Republican's go to overly misused buzz word to instill fear amongst their masses? "Socialism" is so early 2000's fear mongering. You know like Obamacare is Socialism! Get Socialism out of my Medicare!

With most "isms" I can understand the arguments against them, even if I disagree.

But I don't think I have EVER once heard and argument against socialism that has more substance that "Socialism bad!! SOCIALISM BAAAAD!!!"... usually delivered with unhinged fervent and wild eyed hate.

I'm serious here because maybe I simply don't know what socialism actually is (it seems to be a moving target depending on the source) but what, EXACTLY, is the argument against it?

Why is it considered bad for society?

Help a brutha out.

Nick Langworthy is the NY State GOP chair that is responsible helping get President Dr. George Santos Esq. on the ballot.

He had this narrative in his mind where he totally checkmates her and an eagle flies into the room and lands on the flag and everyone stands up and starts clapping and they don't stop until he marries Dana Loesch on horseback.

The problem is that when he said X, she didn't say Y like he imagined she would.  Then everything went wrong.

These people spend all day consuming Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro videos where they DESTROY strawmen who aren't in the room with them.

I'm worried that it's the pretense they're building to attempt a conversion to authoritarianism since "our democratic-republic is fundamentally flawed".

2023-02-01 10:59:47 AM
"We will not have a cradle to grave dependency," Langworthy said in the hearing. "This country will not be all things to all people. We cannot create an expectation that government is all things to all people."

So he thinks that a country that tries to take care of all its citizens, from birth to death, to the best of their expectations is a... BAD thing???

I love the additions of the VA programs.

LOL

I invite people to just sit in any VA waiting room for about 30 minutes and you'll invariably hear a few conversations about how Socialism is the end of American and everyone who wants the government to do things is a Communist.

Stopping the creep of socialism, duh.

Like how 20 cents of your every tax dollar goes to support the defense industry and veterans' health (which, despite not being counted as "defense spending", seems like the other side of the same coin), and how rich people get to pay lower tax rates than everyone else.

Oh wait, that's fascism. ...hmmm, looks like I also have no idea what problem we're addressing or trying to solve.

// they want to kill Social Security and Medicare/aid (and CHIP, and every other health insurance program), they just don't want to say it in those exact words
// that's what they wanted Bowles-Simpson to say as well, and then when they instead came back with "tax rich people just a tiiiiiiiiiiiny bit more, and also let's stop spending (some of the) 3/4 of a trillion dollars on military materiel every two years", Republicans bailed like DB farking Cooper

Actual socialism is when the state takes over the running of the economy -- Texas oilfields to who gets to run a 7-11 and where. Privateering, individual profit incentives - the actual stock market, etc, are all gone. Healthcare and education are covered from beginning to end - as well as an an old age/retirement pension.

What Republicans are carrying on about since FDR is what is considered "democratic socialism" as practiced in every G20 nation out there: open democracy with capitalism, but with enough progressive taxation collected so as to provide healthcare, pension and education supports, but with a free market economy operating freely.

I just have to revisit this because it highlights that socialism was the only answer to an extraordinary problem that a capitalist market had no ability to solve. His only play here was to carve out some exception without realizing what he has just conceded.
