More of this. Big box stores are such a stupid waste of space.

I was going to say I'd live there if I could afford it. The only downside is I'd keep having to buy bigger pants for the pizza ass I'd be growing, but oh look there's a Costco downstairs...

Even though I'd assume there is dedicated parking, that'd be a LOT of parking for 800 units. Unless, of course, there'd be very limited parking and the assumption is most people wouldn't have cars.

Part of me agrees with you that this is smart urban planning, but the dystopian sci-fi fan in me can't help but think this is one step closer to corporate selfdom.

Does the Costco food court accept EBT payments? It's pretty sad to think of how many people in this Great Nation don't have a buck and a half for a hot dog and soda lunch.

I'd guess that they can't take food stamps because it's prepared food.
Too bad that Costco requires an annual membership, that would probably put it of of reach for a lot of the folks who'd be eligible for the low-income housing.

Yep, don't see why this would be surprising. The apartments that are above the Aldie down the street from me start at 1,350 and go to 3,000 a month. The headline makes me think people believe these apartments would be cheap or dumpy, which more than likely would not be the case.

So, no youth in Asia by Costco for the poors, suck it.

You mean the apartments don't come in the cost-effective 24-bedroom size?

Have you ever seen a Costco that's in an area where you wouldn't HAVE to drive?

Housing over restaurants and retail does a lot to increase the livability of an area, but over a Costco seems a bit silly.

Fun fact: You don't need to be a Costco member to make foodcourt purchases. In some states you can also purchase alcohol without a membership.

There's something really gross about the idea that the apartments above the store you work at could be too expensive for you to afford to live in.

Actually, no. But isn't this supposed to be in Los Angeles (or some other big city)?

This was true pre-pandemic for sure around the SoCal area but during the pandemic you've had to show your membership to buy... Couldn't figure out why the line was so damn short  at lunch one time until I was asked to show... Not sure if they have opened it back up to nonmembers yet or if they plan to keep it that way

I won't be surprised if they're cheap and dumpy, only if they don't cost a lot.

I usually send family members over to the food court when we reach the checkout line if they are hungry and none of them have a Costco card and they never have any trouble making purchases. Since the food court is accessible via the customer/member services entrance at my local Costco there doesn't seem to be anything stopping someone from walking in off the street to make food court purchases. The only times I show my membership card is when using the main entrance and at the checkout register to purchase merchandise. The only thing noticeably different now than pre-pandemic at my location is the lack of post-checkout coffee grinders for those wonderful giant bags of dark roast beans they sell.
