OMG. I thought Forrest Gump was horrible but at least it was just one movie.

Lately I get the feeling that the person sending Tom Hanks scripts that they think are good, is not the same person that used to send Tom Hanks scripts.

Just another step toward total CGI.

Old, aging actors will never have to retire and when they die, they won't die. They can be inserted into movies and the estate will make money forever.

But maybe we'd like to see some new talent? And maybe the new talent wishes the old talent would retire and make room?

Yeah we're sort of getting there and it's going to suck.

Studios are so risk adverse they'd rather re-edit a classic than make a new story.

I'd say movie goers would revolt at some point but I thought the same thing about superhero movies and that shiat will not die.

I looked up the Elvis thing they mentioned in the article as an example of the tech they're going to use. Still looks uncanny valley to me.

Who is going to be the groundbreaking entrepreneur who will create the deep fake goggles for sexual partners to use?

(After sex) "So who was I that time?"
"Brad Pitt.  Who was I?"
Also Br-, umm I mean Salma Hayek."

The movie in TFA is based on a graphic novel, so you may resume your Canute brand blunt pizza cutter kvetching over comic book movies.

I can't think of anything more Boomer than literally not allowing younger people to replace them even after they're farking dead.

So they'll hit that middle ground between weird and awful.

I hope they get to a fourth one so they can call it "4est Gump"

I suppose this inches us closer, and closer to the 'holodeck effect'. Where were not sure what is real and what is manufactured by a computer anymore. (...and if it's a holodeck-centric episode, you can bet the safety protocols are off.)

This seems to be moving fairly quickly in the music industry as well. I don't have the exact YouTube link handy, but Rick Beato does an episode on AI generated music. Type in an artist/style and out pops a new tune written and arranged in that style.

There already was a Gump 2 - IIRC they shelved making a movie from it after 9/11, figuring no one wanted to look back anymore.

After the studio royally screwed over the author with "Hollywood accounting" he wrote the sequel as an "fark you" to the studio once his lawsuit was settled. I believe the settlement specifically said the studio had to buy the sequel.

These guys covered it. It's really bad.
