Yeah, well when you do so many drugs you even amaze Keith Richards.....

nor could he ever sing

He's more of a showman than a singer. So he never learned to sing. Big deal.

Neither could Sammy Hagar, and he turned out OK as well

I did see he is in a new Superb Owl ad

He sings just fine you dickhead.

Ozzy is/was a good singer. He wasn't pitchy, dawg and his limited range was fine for
his Sabbath and post-Sabbath work.

Subby's edge-lording aside. . .

Ozzy was huge when I was a kid in high school in the 80s. He's STILL huge 40 years later.
Apparently non-edgelords DO like to hear him sing.

Yeah, this.   I remember when he had that reality show and he just stumbled and mumbled everywhere he went, except for when he jumped on stage.   Then he came to life and like you said, he sang just fine.

His gross wife is going to push him out there again.

So...he deserves it?

Being "fine" for his Sabbath and post-Sabbath doesn't equate to being a "good singer".

I realize that much of Ozzy Osbourne's physical problems are self-inflicted, but it's still sad to read that he's in such pain.

Yeah he shouldn't have got old. Unforgivable.

And Dio didn't really improve on the Ozzy material either, despite being a far better singer. H&H was better live I thought but it might be that Ward was always shiatfaced at that point and Dio was much more engaged with the audience.

While his current output is heavily processed.. his solo work in the 80s and obviously the black sabbath years, he had a great voice.

to say he never sang well is flatly wrong.

Ozzy, have you tried pickleball? Really good for your core and back. All the pain will move to your knees.

If I was married to Sharon Osbourne I would be constantly drinking and inhaling any drug I could. The worst thing Ozzy ever did was unleash that beast on society.

His voice fit the music he was singing and was uniquely him.   He didn't sound like anyone else and that's what you're going for if you're not a technically gifted vocalist.

Ozzy uses more effects in his vocals than Rebecca Black...

If it wasn't for Sharon he would have never had a solo career and likely would have died alone in that hotel room.

Ironically she pretty much saved him from himself.

Does this mean he will go back to making computers again? Now that the singing career distraction is over.
:)

The dude is 74. There aren't many older than him. Hagar, McCartney, Jagger. Not sure if Glenn Hughs is still going but he's over 70 too....

Ozzy had an amazing run and should revel in his accomplishments.

His album from last year, as frail as it was, is still better than 99.9% of the mainstream shiat people listen to nowadays

Black Sabbath, subby. Black Sabbath.

Shut your stupid-ass face.

Well he is 74 and had a lot of rough party nights and could still probably out do most people on fark.

Super funny. It's like, you can see the guy is playing, but all you hear is like some 2 year old banging on a poorly mic'd guitar. It's a satirical commentary that begs a simple question of the viewer: is what you are hearing actually an improvement over the original? Then we all chuckle smugly.

Subby, it was funny! Haters gonna....
That old posure lou reed couldn't sing and he did ok

Saw him live about 10 years ago.  It was fun, but he stood at teh end of the stage with a 70 inch monitor infront of him scrolling his own lyrics.   He didnt move and had to read for every song.   Figured his mind was pretty much shot even then.

This.

Dude has done more drugs and nearly killed himself over decades to where he's a steaming mess.

i've been on fark for many, many years and i usually let the ridiculous statements about music slide. I mean this is a site where Eliot Smith is more talented than DLR-era VH. Lots of muic statements here i don't agree with.

But to say Ozzy couldn't ever sing is maybe the most ignorant thing ever posted here.

His voice in Black Sabbath is just about the greatest rock and roll voice of all time.

There is a reason he is a legend, and it happened over 30 years before he became a buffoon on TV.

Check out Sabra Cadabra or Hole in the Sky. Revelation/Mother Earth from his solo stuff. The guy was an amazing singer with just about the greatest voice in rock and roll. (Behind Bon Scott)

Get outta here with that shiate!

The former manager of the Chicago White Sox. DUH!

Save for the 70-inch screen, that was pretty much his stage show at the US Festival in 1983.

Sure, he walked from side to side of the stage, was all hunched over and would yell "I love you all" occasionally, maybe clap along to the song a few times, but even then I thought he was going to have to stop touring pretty soon.

Maybe it's varying mileage...  When I saw him at a couple of Ozzfests fifteen years later, he didn't want to stand still.  Granted, I'd call it more a shuffle than a run, he didn't exactly seem spry, but he was nonstop motion.

Strangely enough I think his best singing was on Bark at the Moon. I'm not saying that the album itself was his best. Just that his singing was probably at its peak.

That was probably when he was finally relatively sober. He was a mess still for the Blizzard/Diary shows I saw.

Ozzy Osbourne is the KISS of lead-singers.

Good thing I already saw his final show on the "no more tours" tour.  I just have to assume he hasn't toured since 1992.

/ I was pissed because we spent good money on the last night of the tour, and then he added another night.
// Also pissed because Dio was a no-show, and I really dig Dio.
/// A little un-pissed that I got to see Halford nailing the Black Sabbath catalog.  I really dig Halford.

Anyway, CSB time.  So Ozzy at the Cow Palace in SF. They used to use barricades as crowd control and would basically funnel you into the "no booze past this point" checkpoints. These cattle chutes were like Disneyland, all snaking about and there ended up being a big open area by the no booze checkpoint. Some Einstein put a trashcan there, but right in the middle. Naturally everyone was pounding their beers and trying to bucket their empties, resulting in quite the debris field. Some other Einstein decided it would be cool if that can was on fire and tried to dump a small gas can in there, but the yellow shirts chased him off and the can just sat there with a small flame at the spout. That's when Einstein number 3 thought it would be cool to run up and punt that biatch. Well, next thing you know, dumbass is on fire and screaming his ass off. The yellow shirts come running back, and throw him down to roll out the flames. On all that broken glass. Absolutely epic. The show ended up sucking because the stupid throne didn't work and Ozzy pitched a hissy, so they went off after maybe 30 minutes. Took them about 20 minutes to turn the lights on while the crowd pelted the empty stage with everything they could put their hands on.

Disagree about the "not singing" part. He can sing. He's not one of the great technical masters, but he can sing.
