(Fark)   What service do you like for your 1099 e-filing? Intuit "updated" and lost all my data from the last 5 years. I used another site to file but looking ahead to next year   (fark.com) divider line

tax1099.com works great.  We've used it for a few years and the only problem was it kept rejecting the PA filings for some reason.  Probably something on the state side....so we mail them, no big deal.

The price is right, too.

The firm I own charges $15 for the first one, $2 for each additional, plus postage. EIP if interested.

I mean sure you easily could have printed out hard copies or saved a local version, but that was just too damn inconvenient wasnt it

You can go to the IRS's site & get paper copies of past years' filings mailed.

Write a letter to your congress person and ask why we have to file taxes when a lot of other countries, you just get a bill.

They'll be too busy letting tax filing industry lobbyists butter them up to read it.

Jessup's tax services in Abilene TX. Once I year I stuff all my tax things into an envelope and mail it to them, and they take care of the rest.

The last time I had an issue with an online service (TurboTax), I downloaded the 1040 PDFs from irs.gov, filled them out using Adobe Reader, printed them, then made a special trip to the post office to mail them. I was pissed!

At least I already had printer ink, envelopes, and stamps on hand.

Honestly for the majority of people turbotax is what should be used.  It's been so dumbed down progressively over the years that it's nearly impossible to screw up what you're doing, especially if the only things you need to enter is a w-2 and some mortgage interest.

I know its a waste of 80$ to use turbotax, but i balance that out by knowing that if i use turbotax, i can legit do my taxes in under 20 minutes.

I've never tried any other tools for this process, if another service could pull previous data and current W-2 info automatically though, i would consider it.

No joke, the new IRS site is awesome, and I recommend going there to get past data. The government screwed up my w9/1099 a couple years ago and was just looking at how many payments I have left from it.

K Street lobbyists, and campaign contributions. They aren't ever going to make it simple. That would make it too easy to catch the cheaters. I agree with you. If you forget about $11 of interest from some obscure account, the IRS knows about it, and makes the correction. Since they already know all of your numbers, I don't see why we have to keep subsidizing tax preparers, and waste our time every year on this unnecessary PITA.

I'm not about to give turbotax a glowing review, but it's as easy as anything else, easier than most, and it gives me a better refund than others I've tried. The extra I get in refund at least partially covers the expense of filing with turbotax. I may try others again, but I'll probably go with turbotax again this year. All that said, there's plenty to dislike about turbotax, today and historically.
