And it's all that hoopla about skipping a post fight cutscene?

Maybe take the hunt and let people skip cutscenes if the whole party has beaten the dungeon before.

It's a stretch to even call this esports.  The issue came up over a world-first clear of new endgame content.  FFXIV gets pissy about third-party apps in general, and the lunkheads who got the first clear posted up video including the cheats.

It went viral among the player base because they were using a really obvious bird's-eye view FOV mod, and many memes were had.  It's led them to being made an example of, a bit more than usual.

Ohhh, I re-read the article, it's skipping the fight to access the cutscene.

Being FFXIV, I had assumed it was like the story dungeons where you have to watch the cutscenes EVERY FARKING TIME. That kind of thing is a part of why I couldn't keep playing that grindfest.

It's a multi-billion dollar industry now, but sure, it's a "joke".

I agree that esports are on par with and comparable to competitive darts.

I know it's a big $ entertainment thing now. Especially in Asia. But it's not a sport. It's like chess, predominantly a mental skill. only hell, chess or Go are way better as competitive games of mental skill than any of these video games are.

Lots of games are considered sport, the competition being the sporting part. Video games at the competitive level aren't just about mental skill (and these guys put as much training in as chess players do) it's about reflexes and precision under pressure as well as working together as a team in most cases.

For the younger generations Twitch is bigger than pretty much anything else, so esports are here to stay, particularly as broadcasting tools and broadcasters get better at doing it.

While I agree esports aren't nearly as physical as basketball or football to say eports games are just "a mental skill" is flat out wrong.  There absolutely is a physical component.  You aren't going to pick up Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and do this right off the bat.

That takes a massive amount of practice.  Doing the same thing over and over to the point you don't even think about it.

I've been saying esports are silly for years. But they've evolved to a point where I'm starting to feel silly for insisting they are silly.

Actually, esports are more physical.  You need twitch reflexes and intact carpals to operate the buttons.  There's a mental side, but it's about as mental as football. the real power is in the twitch.

Depends on the game, LoL is a much more intense thinking game, vs. say COD 5v5.

There are only three real sports - mountain climbing, bull-fighting, and motor racing.
