I've seen a production guitar made by Ibanez with a body around that thickness. I'd look it up and tell you what model it is but every Ibanez guitar has a name like "the Ibanez R2S720665THX1138-S"

thousands of imported from Asia cheap electric guitars were under American Christmas trees all through the 1960's. thin = light, cheap to import. nothing new.

A cheap Asian Stratocaster knockoff wouldn't be 3/4" thick; you need to use expensive hardwoods for the body and neck to handle the string tension. A lot of Strats and Telecasters have hard rock maple necks, for instance.
