That sounds about right. He should be able to right that ship.

Good luck Bronco fans!

Broncos are depleted of draft capital so I wonder what sort of bounty the Saints required to get this done?

Rocky Mountain oysters.

I wonder if Payton can make Russell Wilson run well again. Best of luck!

At this point I'm just happy to have a proven coach and adult in charge. I'm sure the next season will still be rough at times but the arrow will still trend upwards. Hopefully leading to deep playoff runs after a year or two.

I'm looking at Russ and just taking this past year as a Mulligan. I believe savvy football fans know that Wilson is waaaaay better than what we saw this season.

He coached the Saints to great records with the corpse of Drew Brees at QB. But those Saints teams had some great supporting talent that the Broncos just don't. Fascinating decision on his part.

Well Sean wasn't exactly giving us his a-game with his game day TV studio schtick, IMHO.

Hopefully trading Wilson for him straight up.

2023-01-31 6:30:22 PM
So his coaching to Russ will be giving him game tapes of Drew Brees and saying, "Do that"

Seems like a good hire for the Donkeys. Hopefully they get things turned around

Nothing like landing their third option

It went from:
Sean is staying at Fox
to
Sean is interviewing, but only with the Broncos
to
Sean is staying at Fox
to
Sean is interviewing with Broncos, Arizona, and Carolina
to
Sean is going with Arizona, he's clashing with Denver's ownership
to
Sean is totally staying at Fox
to
Sean is totally going to the Broncos.

I'll believe it when I see it at this point.

Well, they don't have a first or second rounder this year... but they do starting next year.  So I presume it'll be a 2024 pick.

/3 years in a row without a first round pick.  Good job guys!

All because the Chargers owner is a cheap f*ckwit and a total f*cking idiot.

Payton and Herbert would have been a great duo.

To be fair once Hack-its stench wafted away the Broncos were markedly improved. They ended the season seemingly playing decent football.

They have a first round pick they got from the Dolphins in the Bradley Chub trade. Or I should say had since that now belongs to the Saints. ESPN said a2nd next year as well, and the Saints are sending back a 3rd next year.

Ftfa:

The trade puts the Saints back into the first round of the 2023 draft. New Orleans had traded its 2023 selection to the Philadelphia Eagles in a draft picks trade last year

let's just see how that trade went:
The Eagles traded the No. 16 overall pick, No. 19 overall pick and a 2022 sixth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for the No. 18 overall pick, a 2022 third-round pick, a 2022 seventh-round pick, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick.

So it's a wash for 18 and 19, so basically #16 and #194 for what became #101 and #237, #10 this year, and likely a pick in the 30s next year, to a team that's going to the f*cking Super Bowl.

That pick was the 49ers pick sent to Miami for the trade that led to SF drafting Trey Lance.

Hiring someone with less of a name and holding on to draft picks with an eye on rebuilding in 2024 would have been a lot smarter.

Who the fark thought this was a good deal?

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that the broncos could've just hired Payton since he was under contract. Surely tho, there was someone else they could have gotten without giving away critical draft picks that Russ needed to "cook"?

They could have gone with a hot shot offensive coordinator that didn't have prior experience. Oh right they did that last year.

2023-01-31 9:35:02 PM
Now Denver will have to sign Taysom Hill and overpay him to be a slightly more competent Tim Tebow.

Belichick too, after he quit on the Jets after 1-2 days.  the Jets were pissed, and the Patriots grudgingly sent a few picks to the Jets in exchange for Bill's rights.

Cardinals Twitter is bemoaning how we flirted with Payton for 2 days but were spurned.  I say no loss.  AFter Brees quit NO, Payton became a pretty unremarkable offensive genius.  Denver paid a pretty steep price for him and Arizona has way too many needs at multiple positions. it isn't just the #1 pick overall, it is the third pick in the draft, AZ's #1.  Payton for some reason was being made into Belichick v2.0 so I say get over it.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too excited for a retread/rehire like Payton...

Then again, I'm tired of those hours due to Ron and want someone "new" and/or "young'ish"...

/Best of luck to the Broncos

Trading draft capital for a coach is stupid.

But I guess the Broncos know all about trading draft picks and stupid decisions.

Seriously there are people asking this f*cking question? Seriously?

Aaron Rodgers has MULTIPLE MVPS without Mike McCarthy. He has had a f*cking STACKED Dallas team and hasn't made the farking conference final. Drew Brees what, maybe made a Pro Bowl without Sean? The guy was cast off by SD and Miami wouldn't take him because of his shoulder, and Payton made him an MVP and Super Bowl champion.  Come the actual fark on with this BS, comparing the two.

Payton made Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston, and that TE named Hill look competent at quarterback. Look how successful they've been without him.

Way I see it both underperformed with HoF quarterbacks. One Super Bowl win each, similar records, and both had their best season over a decade ago.
