I guess people dont realize how important he was. He was in the LA scene with people like Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Brown. Pretty good company.

Absolutely - Linda Ronstadt made hits out of "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" and "Mohammed's Radio," and maybe covered some other stuff as well.

"Desperadoes Under the Eaves" is one of the most affecting rock songs ever.

I got a part-time job at my father's carpet store
Laying tactless stripping and housewives by the score

When I got stationed in Germany, I had somehow (unintentionally) managed to pack my CD copy of Mr. Bad Example in my carry on, and until my household goods arrived I listened to it a LOT. I could probably karaoke the majority of Excitable Boy, but Mr. Bad Example is burned into my brain. Not complaining.

I have family in L.A. and I make it a point to listen to "Excitable Boy" on the trip out for visits to get in the proper mindset for being out there.  Its never not delivered me off of the plane in as perfect a form a boy from Boston can be in to visit that city.

When I lost one of them years ago I stayed up all night drinking trying to wrap my head around it. When the sun was coming up "Desperados Under the Eaves" came on and I sobbed like a baby.  It was like the universe knew my mind was ready to start accepting it and Warren was the vehicle.

think I've told this story before but back in college when aim and away messages were a thing, I would frequently use he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest as my at dinner one. Friend sees it be time and tells me that's disturbing. I sent him the song and pointed out that was the least disturbing line.

/been raking leaves with Liza, me and Liz clean up the yard might be my favorite line of his

I prefer Zevons version of Raspberry Beret.
I never much cared for the original when it was released into heavy rotation, though, so that's faint praise.

Anyway, David Letterman enjoyed it, too.

Super Chronic:"Desperadoes Under the Eaves" is one of the most affecting rock songs ever.

There's about 1,000 songs on my top ten list, but if I had to actually get it down to 10, Desperadoes Under the Eaves would be one of them.

If you play music, try this song out - just when you think it has all the chords and melody it needs there is a bridge that's totally different but fits perfectly.  Man if I could do that just one time...

VH1 followed him while he was recording that album.  The intro is kind of heavy handed, but I think it's pretty good.

Pedant alert.
Should be "tackless stripping" in the lyric.

Carry on.
