Too bad. You get who you elected.

2023-01-31 11:39:56 AM
And once elected, f*ck what the voters want.

2023-01-31 11:54:31 AM
They have to hold a special election if he gets the boot, right? Governor can't nominate someone?

That would be an interesting election.

2023-01-31 1:22:30 PM
The voters need to lay off him, he has a Superbowl to win.

Private_Citizen: The voters need to lay off him, he has a Superbowl to win.

He already won it last year, and the year before that. He was the MVP on both games.

How dare they treat an Olympic fencing gold medal winner like that!

Ah yes, Doogie Santos, youngest surgeon at the 4077th.

The GOP are worried that Santos and his lies are dragging down the rest of the GOP.

This is a public relations disaster and it just keeps getting bigger. Republicans are worried about this crap cutting into their own reelection campaigns.

Yes, It is a constitutional requirement.  Article I, Section 2, clause 4: When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

I didn't follow this race until all the stories came out. Was there any reporting of him just lying his ass off during the campaign?  What was the local news saying about him?  My gut tells me any story about him he and his supporters yelled "fake news" and that was the end of it.

2023-01-31 2:10:06 PM
At this point I just want to see him get deported. That would be farking hilarious.

2023-01-31 2:10:34 PM
Just like Trump, the GOP is hoping the dems do something about it instead of cleaning their own house.

I want him to stay in office cause I think this is all kind of funny and I look for it to get even worse, and anything that causes disarray in the ranks of the GQP is a net plus to me. Buuuut. Qevin keeps saying it's up to the voters of his district, and it looks like his district has spoken. Balls in your court Qevin....

It was truly amazing seeing him throw the ball 90 yards down the field on one foot and then catch it in the end zone for a TD. The 800 passing yards and 100 rushing yards, 10 TDs total was impressive.

His second Superbowl MVP wasn't as impressive. 5 INTs returned for TDs was a little pedestrian.

One would like to think that but I'd guess that mostly it's "glad it's not happening here" with "what are they going to do - vote for a democrat?"

From my POV all this is is a minor embarrassment of slight overreach: he tried to get away with the grift too openly before he had enough/any tenure to get away with it.   A couple of terms in and outright treason is allowed.  For a newbie you have to stick to dark money under the radar with a sprinkling of attention whoring to make yourself known.

They'll never force him out - and depending on to what extent things blow over, or get curbed by other shenanigans, he'll either not run again or (more likely) get re-elected because "we'll now he's an incumbent who learned his lesson and votes the way he's told".

2023-01-31 2:17:41 PM
His entire campaign strategy was, " they're so busy with trump, they'll never notice me!"

And it worked.

Doesn't anyone remember the time George Santos performed at the Wembley Live Aid and then flew himself to Philadelphia to perform there as well on the SAME DAMN DAY? Cut this artist some slack!

It's okay, he can always go back to that bar he bought in Boston, where everybody knows his names.

The other 29% are the only ones who find the over-the-top Santos "jokes" remotely amusing.

"Of the 24% of voters who admitted voting for Santos, 31% say they'd still vote for him even knowing what they know now."

So...~8% of the sample are so into STIGGINIT they don't care about admitting they'd prefer a total liar over any Dem. Honestly, after Trump I though that number would be higher.

2023-01-31 2:23:01 PM
Good thing the GOP has committed itself to not caring what the people want.

Then why is Santos looking like he's about to get indicted?

Santos is the living demonstration at the lack of proper tools for removing elected unwanted officials from office in effective manner.

As such, the US largely lacks the tools necessary to run its governments

It will first requires house leadership and enough of his GOP colleagues to bring up and vote affirmatively to expel him at some point. I'd say that he could resign himself in response to indictment but that requires a capacity for shame that is not in evidence. The similar lack of shame and general weakness of GOP leadership also makes the move for expulsion far from a sure thing.

I expect he'll maintain a death grip on his seat even if indicted and convicted. He might be able to successfully argue that Article I gives him the right to take day-trips out of prison to his day job ala Epstein even if he is sentenced and imprisoned before his term is up.

The reality was, under the original redistricting proposed by the NY Dems, this was going to be a sacrificial run in a heavily D district. Then when the conservative justices on the court struck down the redistricting and imposed their own "impartial" redistricting, that district when to a competitive election, with too little time for the R's to put forward an actual candidate.

farking Cuomo is largely to blame for why Santos won an election.

We have an excellent means to remove corrupt officials from public office - the GOP constantly tell us to use the 2nd amendment in situations such as this one.

I feel you're downplaying the 2 TKOs, the Nat 20 critical strike, and "no shiat, there I was" 360 no-scope on the defenders of Blue's flag. Hand to god it had to have been one of the most amazing games played. And that was with a strained Achilles. Imagine if he was healthy.

Yep. I mean, Sinema essentially did the same thing to AZ voters. She lied about being Progressive, she isn't left-leaning at all these days.

She ran as a D then voted like an R and we're stuck with her. But if you or I lie on our resume we can be terminated very easily. And yet we're not voting on issues that affect the entire country.

It really rankles me to hear people defend American democracy and our Constitution as "durable" or "strong" or whatever. It's not strong--it's just nearly impossible to change or improve.

A safe is great for storing valuables securely, but if no one has access to the combination to open it, then it's really just a black hole.

I have mentioned that he looks like the rabbi at my synagogue that I attend. It is a possibility, since Santos is Jew-ish.
