And yet, Capone likely paid his lawyers more.

/Probably without even adjusting for inflation.

Imagine the right wing rage if Obama compared himself to a "great" gangster.

2023-01-31 8:39:04 AM
Capone could afford competent lawyers so there's that.

2023-01-31 8:39:12 AM
but what lawyers?  I mean, he's an ex president...wouldn't the BEST and LARGEST firms be beating down his door to represent him and probably at lower cost because it is incredible advertising?

Capone also went out of his way to help people to improve his public image. Capone is also responsible for fewer deaths. In a lot of ways, Capone was just a better person than Trump.

Stars and Stripes could be turned into prison bars pretty easily.

Also kinda shocked he's not rocked the thin blue line on that flag

Trump's case of raging tertiary syphilis is also better than Capone's. Everything Trump does can only be described in superlative-laden comparisons to long-dead gangsters.

2023-01-31 8:44:58 AM
Capone had syphilis, too.

2023-01-31 8:46:24 AM
I wish that loud, orange tub of lard and hate would shut up. Every day, it's the same rant: poor me, everybody's picking on me, it's NOT FAIR!

Well, you sorry lump of lard, it's your own damn fault for being such an arrogant prick. And it's not harassment if you're GUILTY. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Trump is also routinely compared to Hitler, but Mussolini would be more accurate.

Another difference between Capone and TFG is that Capone ran profitable businesses

bighairyguy: Trump is also routinely compared to Hitler, but Mussolini would be more accurate.

It's not fair to compare Trump to Hitler, Hitler actually served in the military and didn't need a ghost writer to write his book for him.

As usual, a bit of both.

Why would that be something to brag about?

Someone who is innocent and clean has no need for lawyers. He doesn't run afoul of the law.

All Trump is admitting is that he's a criminal who needs lots of "criminal" lawyers (cf. Jesse from Breaking Bad).

Trump is about to find out that - like Capone - it's your taxes that will be your downfall.

2023-01-31 9:11:14 AM
Now, according to Trump, gangsters are great.  Capone went to Federal prison for tax evasion. So hopefully Trump can follow in those footsteps.

2023-01-31 9:15:14 AM
Didn't Capone die in prison from syphilis?

2023-01-31 9:15:48 AM
What is astonishing to me, even though it shouldn't be, is the fact that we WATCHED him break the law.  There is no question about many of the things he's done because we watched him do it.  Jan 6th and the farking documents are just two examples.  But the list goes on and on and on.

Yet he still claims that this is all "weaponization of the DOJ", and "it's all political."  And what's worse is that his supporters believe and repeat the nonsense day in and day out.

You know what would fix this problem?  INDICT HIM.

But of course, as we are well aware by now, that is never going to happen.  Apparently we are powerless to do anything to him.  We can't even shut him up.

2023-01-31 9:17:13 AM
I would trust Capone more as pres then Trump.

I'm fine with Trump being exactly like Capone.

Even if we don't get the perp walk, imagining tfg** going to prison for any of his crimes makes me happy. I imagine it would be a good day for 75% of the country and a reckoning for the 8-9% remaining dedicated to his farkery.

Imagine the GoFundMe for the person who did? It's one thing to soak a small number of rubes over and over again, but the international contributions to this person's legal fund would be bananas.

Hitler was a self made man, never cheated on his wife, and liked dogs. Trump?  None of the above.

BigMax: Trump's case of raging tertiary syphilis is also better than Capone's. Everything Trump does can only be described in superlative-laden comparisons to long-dead gangsters.

The IRS was more powerful in Capone's day, which entirely explains the GQP platform of defunding it.
Trumps tax returns are written in crayon and signed "Epstein's Mom", of course the government won't do anything (he currently owes $100,000,000 in back taxes to the IRS BTW).
But go ahead bottom 99%, just miss $5 in taxes and you will receive a letter in the mail asking for the $5 and likely a fine.  Don't pay the fine and your stuff will be taken.

2023-01-31 9:41:51 AM
Well it isn't like he is paying them in money, just ask Rudy how much he is owed, and I am sure his parking lot lawyer will give him a bang up defense.

Republicans love their criminals, particularly ones who can beat the rap. That's part of the Republican mindset: You're innocent until convicted, and even then, you don't deserve punishment because you're wealthy and/or white.

Personally convicted for tax evasion would also seem nice.
