You can get authentic Champagne made in California too.

"Authentic" is such a funny word.

That sounds interesting. Israeli sour mash...

We also have inauthentic bourbon. It's very good (especially the barrel proof version) but too pricey.

It's really overused in "food culture".  The birthplace of the person who made the food has no bearing on it being good.  New York has some great BBQ.  Rick Bayless makes great Mexican.  Japanese scotch is great.

There's that, yes, absolutely.

But closer to the topic, these are basically trademark issues and the legal loopholes expose how silly they are.

If it's not from Bourbon County, KY, it's just sparkling whiskey.

Really subby? You really want us to believe that following directions correctly is a newsworthy thing?

Made from "Kosher corn"

I didn't know that was a thing. Religious certified foods are dumb.

There is no authenticity in food or drink, just gatekeeping.

I looked it up and it's because apparently maize is considered a legume?

I'm going to mentally file this one under, "Glad it's none of my business".

Well cooked food is one thing, but I would be suspicious of authentic mangos grown here in Manitoba.

Obviously ingredients can come from anywhere, chili peppers, tomatoes and potatoes all came from South America/Mexico, and a great deal of cultures have used those foods to create some wonderful dishes.

Also same reason rice was never hugely popular in North America, don't really have the conditions to grow it.  Except wild rice.

But yes authentic NY pizza is stupid.

Not true. Not whole states' worth of land like midwestern grain crops, but there is significant white rice farming in Arkansas and California among others.

Arkansas rice sells at a premium in Japan... so there's that...

Rice was and is very big in the South - where they imported slaves from very specific parts of Africa to cultivate it. It is huge in California.

Not a legume but kitniyot which includes legumes, maize, cacao and other plants which are not the Forbidden Five but share certain similarities with them.

Many Central and Eastern European Jews don't consume them during Pesach. Non-Ashkis do.

I'd rather that my food passed health inspections based on science, not on how (for meat anyways) it was butchered as dictated by religious rules. But I'm just a dirty agnostic.

Well, that's better information than chabad.org gave me, thank you. Still glad it's none of my business.

Yeah. My people can turn "Good morning" into a five volume exercise in critical text analysis
