Ron Coleman is a farking mess.

He was mostly okay.  Then he had major surgery and immediately went back to pushing heavy weight, tearing up and ruining what he had done... THEN had the gall to blame the physicians for the mess he was in with broken screws in his back.

Know who got out of bodybuilding successfully? Dorian Yates. He figured out that what his body could handle in it's 20's and 30's, couldn't take in his 40's and beyond, so he quit living like a professional bodybuilder and cut out of the drugs and the heavy training.  Probably counts his lucky stars every day that he never had kidney disease like so many of his peers.

Plenty of people come back from disc herniation and recreate into old age.

plenty of people can, but you have to modify the kinds of exercises you do if you stand a chance.

not to mention him being one of very few humans (while yes he was on more steroids than a herd of cattle) who was squatting 800 pounds in his prime.  He was around 300lbs, with ultra low body fat.  Surgeons and doctors would be working on someone with the kind of frame that all but doesn't exist.   I just found it infuriating listening to him in interviews going on like the doctors didn't know what they were doing and they kept on making him worse.  Part of being a patient means that you need to do what they say, and you know he didn't pay attention to any of their insistence of quitting the weightlifting.

The steroid abuse for over a decade alone makes it unbelievable to me that he didn't die or have multiple organ failure a few years after "retiring" from competition, but some people are lucky.
