Wow, so no extension pre-negotiated. I'm surprised Islanders would even take the chance that Horvat could be a rental.

Not just a rental but at best the Isles are a wild card team, meaning Boston or Carolina in the first round.  Lou is betting that the team can pull off another upset run, which I'm not seeing.

Part of me wants to see the Islanders flip Horvat for a larger return right at the deadline.

Maybe the drunken captain of the Canucks' brain-ship figure that moving Horvat would free up the captaincy for Pettersson, and convince him to stay?

When your team can't score more than 2 goals a game and they're complete dog chit when it comes to scoring in the 3rd period, anything is worth a shot.

I'm just happy it means the Bs are out of that discussion. Love the idea of them signing him as a UFA behind either Bergeron or Krejci retiring. But giving up even more future for a luxury rental seemed obscene to me. Now stop with the Toews shiat too

The Islanders flipping Horvat strikes me as somewhat hilarious.  I haven't paid attention to them, so I'm not sure what they actually need.  Am I surprised Vancouver traded him?  Not in the least.  As we recently talked about, the Canucks are so bad, a fire sale seems more prudent than trying to salvage this campaign.

The thing that puzzled a lot of people was that they prioritized signing Miller to an extension, over signing their current captain (a big fan favourite, and community-involved player).

And the management has rightly lost a lot of good will with the fanbase due to the handling of the Bruce Boudreau fiasco.

And BTW, guess who Bruce scored on for his first NHL goal? Jim Rutherford:
