That's it, farkwad, pay those trying to stand on their own less than minimum wage.  These aren't just high school kids, dipshiat.  They're people who have lost their spouses through death or divorce.  They're factory workers who have lost their jobs as their profession shut down.  They're senior citizens trying to make ends meet.  They're human beings, you insufferable twat.  Go screw a light socket.

Republicans hate to see anyone but rich people get money, because only they are truly favored by god or something. They want ten different levels of minimum wage before $15 minimum, and zero taxes on every dollar over $100k.

"So, we can't get away with paying adults less, but can we just get away with dunking on kids looking for a summer job to help pay for college? Because that totes won't affect anything else, right?"

I don't know if it's still a thing here in Ontario but there used to be a student minimum wage and an adult minimum wage. I was working at a restaurant for a Greek family and I turned 18 but didn't tell them for several months because I knew they were cheap and I suspected they would fire me if I told them they had to pay me adult Minimum wage. Turns out I was spot on correct.

I'm so farking tired of this mentality that part-timers and high schoolers inherently deserve less pay. I hear people say, "well, $12/hr isn't bad for a part-time job" or "well, they're just teenagers." Fark that shiat. They don't get charged less in rent or for groceries bc they're part-time or teenagers. Everyone working deserves to make a fair wage.

Our laws are A-OK with ageism as long as it's against young people. Explicitly.

Voters issue by issue: We want living wages, a fair minimum wage, worker protections, legal marijuana, sentencing reform, action on climate, infrastructure, safe working places, good schools, training for young people, affordable housing...

GOP: We hate every one of those things with the burning intensity of a thousand suns. We hate them and we hate you for asking for them. We will fight them to our your dying breath and then we will have you ground into animal feed. USA! USA! USA!

This is the correct response. If it's to help small businesses, then only small businesses should get this benefit.  And then watch them explain how that wouldn't be fair--but paying people less for being young is, somehow.

No. If your business relies on paying people less than what they're worth, you don't have a truly viable business. Suffering cannot be part of your business model.
Even the wall street people call this "sweat equity." Except here it's someone else's sweat.

The problem is the Minimum Wage itself.

There shouldn't be one.

heck, let's just assume today's 14-17 yr old was like when i first got a job at 16 at family places of business and I just did it to have spending money at my local comic shop.

And let's say I remembered things wrong and instead of 5 bucks an hour washing cars or pushing brooms, I only pulled about 4 bucks an hour.

In the 90s I could make basically 3 comics an hour after taxes on those wages. At 10 bucks an hour with comic prices today? You couldn't even get two an hour.

What a freakin' rip.

It would set a minimum training wage for employees between 18 and 20-years-old as well.  They would also only be making $10 per hour by that same year.

"Training" = The time between the moment your employment begins and the moment that it ends.

It's no surprise that the "Nobody wants to work!" crowd is against living wages.

"In my Inaugural I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By 'business' I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level -- I mean the wages of decent living." -- Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933)

All states actually have a law that minimum wage for someone less than age 20 is way lower for the first 90 days, which I've always found ridiculous.

But there's actually a number of states that have a lower minimum wage for non-adults.  Illinois, Michigan, Washington, New Jersey, and Ohio [Ohio is 14 and 15 year olds].  I thought Pennsylvania did too, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Oddly enough, all are blue states except for Ohio.

I thought minimum wage jobs were supposed to be low to no skill? If that is true, then there shouldn't be any training required for a minimum wage job.

fark that. Work is work is work, no matter who is doing it or how old they are. Employees are an investment, an asset, not a liability, and it is time that business owners, large and small, realize that.

If low to no skill jobs should be minimum wage, then most business owners should only earn minimum wage. After all, it doesn't take much skill to count money other people earned and run it to the bank.

So anyone over 20 will have trouble finding any kind of entry level job while companies burn through kids and fire them as soon as they become more expensive.
