West Virginia? Does moonshine count?

There's still only four liters in a gallon, right? And this is per year? Shiat.

....they're counting babies in this per capita, right?

I would have guessed one of those but not the other.

Montana and North Dakota seem to have very little else to do, so I guess them being up near the top-middle makes sense.

Utah being dry makes sense.  West Virginia?  Not so much.  Unless this is based on sales and home made Moonshine simply can't be counted/calculated.  Georgia?  Same issue, although you may also have a lot of Bible Thumpers there who won't admit to drinking.

There's cheap booze in New Hampshire, and all the Massholes and Maniacs shop there.

Delaware only seems high because everyone from Pennsylvania shops there.

I think it means in terms of how much booze, like the total amount of booze consumed as opposed to amount of booze per person.

Are we routinely consuming other kinds of alcohol beyond ethanol? Because you are going to have a bad time...

The same site  listed 7 of the 10 "drunkest cities" as being in WI.  https://vinepair.com/booze-news/7-of-the-10-drunkest-cities-in-america-are-all-in-one-state/

Proud to see Appleton ranked #1. I spent my most productive drinking years there.

That's what I thought as soon as I saw West Virginia: this must be alcohol sold and taxed, not alcohol consumed.

Yeah, that makes sense now, because Michigan is way too low.
Of course, weed.

Map fails by failing to list a time period. I can infer it is per year but that really needs to be stated explicitly on the visualization otherwise it is essentially meaningless.

Also, Wisconsin.

I grew up in Nevada (and lived there until my late 20s), and I can assure you that even apart from the tourists, there is a shiat-ton of booze sold and consumed there.  I think it comes out near the top even in surveys that control for consumption by tourists.  Bars are open 24 hrs per day with no "last call," you can buy booze in almost any store--from 7-11 to supermarkets to liquor stores--any hour they're open, taxes on booze are minimal and prices are cheap (which does lead to people who drive there from other states leaving with cases of booze to take home), and liquor licenses cost only a few hundred bucks so anybody can open a business that sells booze, whether that's a bar, restaurant, or store. The state culture and tradition is to drink like a fish, and pretty much everyone (other than the Mormons) does.

It's been a year. fark off I'm fixing Utah.

Living in Montana was nice for 3 years. Good coffee good alcohol. Montana was great.

Per my records, I brewed and consumed 100 gallons of beer in Oregon last year so I have serious questions about these numbers.

And in other news, Washington State is considering lowering the legal blood-alcohol content limit from 0.08% to 0.05%, following Utah.

Four quarts. 3.785... liters.

I partied with some Wisconsin girls at a bowl game once.  They drank us all under the table and talked shiat while they did so.  Almost convinced me to go to Madison for grad school.

DC is also skewed.  Lots of Virginians & Marylanders drink in DC.

Also, blue laws in MD cause close-in folks to head to DC on Sundays and after midnight to buy booze.
(Sunday law is looser that it was, but still sucks)

What the hell is going on in New Hampshire? Is it that bad up there? I thought it was supposed to be pretty with maple trees everywhere with a kaleidoscope of color changing leaves and free maple syrup or something?

That was so poorly worded and defined, it was damn near useless and I think the author was drunk.

A few keys:
