In France "Pain Perdu"
Growing up in NOLA we just called it "Lost Bread"

DON'T use sliced bread for it.  Must use yesterday's po-boy bread.  The shop around the corner slices the bread up and bags it for that.  Good for Bread Pudding too.

I thought we were calling it Freedom Toast but that was only temporary.

In Quebec it's "pain doré", I never had it.

Being cut off from France for over 200 years  by the English will do that.

Whatever it's called, and wherever it comes from, it's delicious. Better than pancakes.

Well, yeah, if it's not from France it's technically a "Sparkling Roasted Bread"

There was a great show on English CBC about the (Canadian) French language, I forget the name, but there was an episode or two about the differences between Quebecois and Metropolitan French.
The presenter told a story about going to the Louvre where her husband kept annoying the staff by asking where he could take a bath.

Essentially the same as an American asking for the "bathroom" in a restaurant. There's no bath in there.

"Salle de bain" for french canadians vs whatever is the proper french way.

American English is all screwed up.  You go into the bathroom, close the door, sit on the toilet, and then "go to the bathroom."  You were already there!
