Good use of the Plug tag.

Yeah no surprise there. Elon has played useful idiot for the powers-that-be. Let's see what happens when Tesla's carbon credit business falls off a cliff.

That's good.  Wife wants a grand-cherokee equivalent EV and they're stupid expensive.  Get those prices down!

Electriclectic: Tesla's carbon credit business falls off a cliff.

Gosh, they stand to lose as much as 1.7% of their gross margin if their carbon credits disappear entirely!

Plenty to gripe about with Tesla, but this idea that "they're not a car company, they're a carbon credits company" is some sort of weird meme from somewhere that won't die.  Tesla makes a tiny fraction of their revenue from carbon credits.

Glad to see it.  The Mustang-E is ass ugly, though, it looks like an Aztek impregnated a Volvo and there was a 2020 Prius involved in it as well.

Not sure if the driver was completely incapable or what, but I danced around one the other day off a light in my 150hp grand am.  And the driver clearly knew I was trying to beat him.

Street racing is so cool! Especially in a shiat-box Grand Am.

The ElectroBevets' of the world prefer a Gish gallop of misrepresentation and throwing up more and more obstacles for why electric vehicles will never and should never be a thing. It's just another arrow in the quiver.

That guy disappeared (I hope). The last time I saw him he was talking about how environmentalists were unfairly maligning coal.

Just challenging someone off the line, wanting to see a hot car take off.  Not like I'm out here trying to run quarter miles on the streets, just get some revs off at the green.

The slow Mach-E does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. The driver was probably wondering why some moron in a Grand-Am was "racing".

Maybe the Mach-E driver knew where it was going to end in 30 years.

GM started the price war last year with the Bolt and Bolt EUV price cuts.

As usual, Elon gets credit for ripping off someone else's idea.

Tesla ISNT a car company
It's a tech startup that makes cars

I test drove it, and first off I was like "Why is an SUV called a mustang?"  My next impression was that everything, EVERYTHING, was controlled by a monolithic screen that looked like a pregnant iPad right in the middle of the dash.  No dials.  No buttons.  Want to turn up the fan?  You gotta hunt and peck a menu on a non-haptic smooth glass surface, with your eyes off the road.

Farking dangerous car design.  Put your AC, heaters, radio, etc on the dash where a driver can spin a dial without looking at a screen.  There's a reason that the main elements of a car UI haven't changed much in the last 60 years, go with what works ergonomically, no need to add another distracted-driver device.

My favorite moment was on the test drive when the salesguy tried to convince me that the speech recognition would handle all that and spent 3 minutes failing to turn on the AC.

I love it when I have my Samsung phone in "driving mode" and the Google Assistant demands I touch my phone's screen to complete something I asked it to do

I'm hoping that European safety regulators put an end to touchscreens and capacitive buttons (like those in the Nissan Ariya) for common controls, and that the changes trickle their way to this side of the Atlantic.  Because you know US regulators aren't going to put up a fuss.

That's a distinction without a difference.  All car companies are tech companies, and they were all startups once.  At some point, they get old enough and/or large enough you can't reasonably call them "a startup" anymore, but that line's a bit subjective.

When I first started working on airborne radar (for the F-15), I was working in a lab where they had actual radar control panels, throttles and control sticks, and I commented on how every button and knob had a different size and shape. The old geezer I was working with said "we're not going to make them look; they're flying a farking airplane." That was all I ever needed to know about touch screen controllers, more than three decades before they existed.

After they told Tesla they couldn't use "Model E" for the car that became the Model 3, I thought for sure Ford would have used it here. Instead, we got the "Mustang."  There's only two reactions to it: not caring, and hating it... and those that hate it most were probably the biggest Ford fans.

My first car was a Mustang, and while I think hate is far too strong a word, I do think it's profoundly dumb.  I have taken to calling it the Mach E auto. And I wouldn't mind owning a caramel colored Mach E auto, assuming I had a way to charge it.

I'm actually a Ford guy. I'd probably enjoy owning one of these.

But it isn't a mustang. It's a station wagon.

They should have called it the Probe for old time's sake.

I post this link frequently, but it's a good story that relates.  It sounds like the auto industry needs to relearn this painful lesson.

Lee Iacocca's original vision for the Mustang was a car that teenagers could afford. Specifically, the kids who wished they could own a corvette. The Mustang II was an effort to return to that model. It was ugly, but as a teenager in the 80's I could afford a used one. And it was cooler than the other 70's era shiatboxes the kids at school were driving (an admittedly low bar.)

This EV station wagon thing is about as far from that vision as you can get.
