Yup, then it's time to trade her in for a newer model.

Could be. Or he could be like a lot of guys I know who always date younger women because they've never grown up themselves, and are incapable of relating to middle aged adults. When the breakups inevitably happen, it's not because they thought the girls were getting too old, but because the girls got tired of their shallow, self-absorbed immaturity.

So, by this you really mean "didn't burden themselves with children and a mortgage" right? Because I'm almost out of middle age and not a single one of my HS friends changed in any significant way between 25 and 50 outside of child rearing.

It's not that dating a younger woman is "beneath" me. It's that perspectives change as you age and gain experience, and I can't relate to a college freshman enough anymore to have a meaningful relationship that wouldn't feel creepy.

If you haven't matured at all as you've aged, and scoff at the very idea that anybody learns or changes at all over the years, of course you're not going to see the issue. It also makes sense you'd bristle at the term "man-child", as it's one you might hear fairly often.

More like a person who understands young people lack the experiences that make agency easier to assert.

An older person is almost certainly using the dynamic to manipulate the younger person. Its very much an openly discussed thing with the predatory types (Andrew Tate being an extreme example) to say they prefer younger women because they don't know as much. That they can be 'taught' to behave the way the man wants.

You see similar dynamics when bosses have relationships with staff or even church elders who prey on congregation or teachers who abuse students. They want the imbalance because it makes control easier.

I think a lot of Farkers would date the younger hottie, if they were able to do so (unencumbered by wife, family, mortgage, a beer-belly, ability and desire to socialize with the Insta-friendly crowd). I am skeptical how many would actually wish to marry the younger hottie. Aside from not wanting to lose half of our "fortunes" we probably have enough experience to know that companionship is more important than just youthfulness and attraction.

Some guys have that predatory mindset, sure. But you're greatly overstating how many of them even put that much thought into it. The guys (and some gals) I've known really do relate better to younger and less experienced people because they're perpetual children themselves, and they're always blindsided when their latest partner stops finding their childishness charming and gets tired of their inability to act like an adult when it's needed. The average 30-40+ person who refuses to move beyond a high school mentality isn't trying to fool others. They're fooling themselves into thinking they're still 17 years old and the coolest kid on the block. It can be sad to watch.

So showing up to work, paying rent, buying food, etc, etc, are only responsibilities if you run up your credit card while doing so? I think you're holding to a very loose definition of the word "responsibility".
