They lit it up to celebrate the Jets losing their last 6 games thus moving them way up in the draft so they can get another QB bust.

It switched to Chiefs colors after they won so it was probably some promotion tied in with the NFL.

I'm sure the Empire State Building staff were hoping the 49ers and Chiefs would win so they wouldn't have to bother changing the colors.

no, they tweeted it as a show of respect for the eagles winning.
After the 2nd game, they switched the colors to the Chiefs for winning....

then they made fun if people complaining about it.

I like to think so just because its a funny image.

But since they're LED lights, its probably done via a computer.

They did it for Kansas City too. But still seems stupid to be doing it for things that are specific to other cities. Nationwide or NYC only.

This is an attention whoring move by ESB more than anything. New York sees itself as the most important place, at the center of the world, so it absolutely must commemorate every event around the world lest no one else would.

News flash, New York: other cities have skyscrapers and LED lights and are capable of commemorating their own sports teams accomplishments.

Anyway, the ESB routinely changes their lights around to symbolize some big story/holiday/whatever. The only thing rarer than lights for a non-NY team is lights for sportsball in general. People are just complaining because it's the Eagles.

Or it's just honoring some event like places all over the world do. 99% of their lights should be non-controversial. But, you know, people need to be pissed about something.
