Can you imagine Tom Cruise's acceptance speech? We're talking a Triple Lindy off three couches.

I'm no xenophobe, but I LOVE Top Gun. Both of them.

All my money is on 80 for Brady to sweep all the AARP awards next year.

The AARP has an award show? The Fogies?

Well, that settles it. Anything AARP recommends, I will avoid. Took 15 years to get off of their mailing list.

The Old Man was just a macguffin story. There's a secret? Oh I want to know it. Oh, that's it? Ok.

The last Top Gun movie to me is like Forest Gump. It works better if the audience has some knowledge of the past and what the movie is referencing. It's not required, but the movie is so much better if you have that knowledge and experience. So it makes sense older people would like it, they are the ones most in the know with Top Gun.

In all fairness, that movie was better than it had any right to be.

Indiana Jones Turns 80 will sweep. Old people love themselves some Harrison Ford.

I mean...these are the people who still read Tom Clancy. Whole chapters devoted to the ins and outs of a specific missile system. Of course they love this movie.

Instead of movie awards, you'd think AARP would hand out recognition to movie theaters. Specifically the ones that offer discount senior matinees, closed captioning, and are located within 5 minutes of a Golden Corral.

Geez, sounds like some geezers need to find themselves a hobby beyond feeling superior to others who like what they don't like.

No shiat. It's a sequel. Most sequels are more enjoyable if you saw the previous one.

It was. Even though I'm old enough to have seen the original in the theater  and to realize they were doing a Star Wars final run recreation, the diretor handled it so masterfully that I just farking enjoyed every minute of it. I saw it twice in the theater and once on video and it was great every time. It just hit all the right beats.

Hats off to Cruise, but also hats off to Peter Craig as a writer and Joseph Kosinski as the director. It all worked. Cruise had avoided a sequel for years until a story came along he felt worked, and shiat did they make it work. Is it Oscar worthy? Not really. But is it worthy of recognition as a great movie? Yes. It was entertainment, pure and simple.

As a ludicrous half-assed military-sponsored cornball retread it is made almost entirely of suck, but when you're watching it, all that suck works together to make nostalgia brain go wheeee and awwww.

Heh, Cruise is officially a "geezer pleaser" now joining an esteemed group  that includes:

Tom Berenger
Antonio Sabato Jr
Liam Neeson
Bruce Willis
Steven Seagal

I don't know about that. From what I've seen of the previews, they're not only killing him off, but the convoluted time travel story basically ends in nullifying everything Indiana Jones has ever done in favor of a new, younger main character who is then free to reboot the entire series. As an old (but not quite AARP old) I don't think I'd enjoy watching that.

AARP or otherwise, it certainly isn't Best Picture good. Not by any historical standard.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are just nominating more movies in an effort to stay relevant and to get as wide a demographic possible to take interest. But it's been a steady descent into obsolescence for well over a decade.

Amour, Silver Linings Playbook, and Django Unchained(2013) were all superior to Argo. But the Academy was determined to make fetch... I mean Affleck a thing.

/He's not.

The fact that they're using the term "grownups", a term clearly meant for little kids, instead of just saying "adults" is hilarious.

They should CGI in River Phoenix as the young Indiana again.

Nah. They're going to replace Ford with Pedro "I'm in everything now, but I'm good so it's okay" Pascal. Like after this movie, the only available versions of the Raiders movies will have both Ford and Phoenix digitally changed into Pascal, de-aging as needed.
