True. But we live in a perpetual shooting gallery where anyone can access long guns and/or handguns with high capacity magazines.

FTA   In two separate travel advisories, the Turkish foreign ministry recommended its citizens in the United States and European countries "act calmly in the face of possible xenophobic and racist harassment and attacks" and to "stay away from areas where demonstrations may intensify."

That's solid advice for everyone. Individually, we Americans are nice people. But in large groups...

Turkey warned its citizens on Saturday against "possible Islamophobic, xenophobic and racist attacks" in the United States and Europe after its Western allies cautioned their citizens in Turkey about possible terror attacks.

It's called the Republican Party.

What about if you're Turkish and Muslim? I feel like there are two or three guys in this country who may be kind of not love the idea that you're Turkish living in this country .I know it sounds crazy.

Oh wait were your being sarcastic? shiat, I keep missing the sarcasm.

Unless you're a sleeper cell operating with in the states borders to carry out attacks or direct actions against foreign nationals.

Whether it's Russian secret identities. Chinese campus monitors.
Iranian plants.
Israeli "observers".

They all have specific agendas to carry out.

Guessing Turkey is amping up the xenophobia preemptively after barring Sweden from entering NATO?

Governments are switching.

Reuters is under no such obligation, and has a particular dislike for Turkey.

Considering how Turkey has treated journalists in recent years, I doubt the style guides are in any hurry to kiss Erdogan's ass, and any changes will be slow walked.

Dictator gonna dictate.

They're just complaining because Sweden issued a warning to it's citizens who were in Turkey because there were widespread protests about a Koran burning in Sweden that apparently Russia orchestrated.

I'm always against book burning, but i'm starting to have a change of opinion for one particular book.

Pfft. They reached critical mass on all the Thanksgiving jokes, so Turkey is officially 'soooooooooooo 2022' -- it's 'Türkiye' in 2023 and people filling out forms in the U.S. are probably cursing about that as you read this.

In related news, please update all of your now-Türkiye-relatedThanksgiving jokes to 'Turkey, yay, and today we can hate the Greeks!', regardless of whether or not that's the proper pronunciation of the new name.

When in Turkey I recommend steering clear of the Saudi consulate.

I hate to say this but if you're a refugee and the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark burning your religious book consider that they're three of the most easy going countries on the planet.

Simply, if you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole.

They showed up with a whole lot of Raki and called 'no backsies'?

It's brutal stuff... tried it in Albania more than a few.. okay, I drank a lot of it. It's cheap and potent.

Watch out for homebrew, tho. Lots of folks visit Albanian and presumably Turkish hospitals daily with uncomfortable questions like 'hey, where'd my vision go?' and 'it's what year, again?!!'

It's a RNG. You'd think individually matters, but wander outside places with less than 100K people, and people who really hate you start speaking their mind.

1/3rd is nice
1/3rd just keeps their head down
And 1/3rd has thier head so far up thier own ass, they can count their 3 teefs.

They control the entrance to the Black Sea, the anus of Russia. Poking Russians up the butt is going to be needed if we ever fight a war against them.

baronbloodbath: I'm surprised Reuters didn't use the official name, Türkiye. Isn't there like a name style guide or some shiat their editors have to use?

Yes. Reuters, AP, the Times, to some degree the Post, AFP and others all have style guides (or stylebooks, if you prefer the jargon) to which they are meant to adhere. Even though the Grey Lady has lost her luster for yours truly, I still prefer their style. One example of which is how they name the president as President Asshat on first mention but it's Mr. Asshat for the rest of the article - because that individual ain't a farkin' king. Chef's kiss.

But the new Turkish names will be in use soon enough. Copy editors are by nature possessed of a certain conservatism, yeah? One called me in Lahore once to hiss show me on the doll where the English language touched you before drunkenly ringing off.

So a Putin sponsored asshole in Sweden burns a Koran in order to scuttle Scandinavian countries attempts to join NATO, and Erdogan pulls this kind of reactionary schit? Got it.

Not surprised. America HAS become dangerous for EVERYONE because of the Gun Cult, so there's that.

FastStats - Child Health (cdc.gov)

So, according to the CDC, at least as of 2020, that number might account for a significant portion of accidents, but doing the math, it would be...extremely odd for every accident to be a firearm accident.   Not saying 3900 is wrong, just saying that based on the CDC's data, it would account for a massive spike from 2020 and prior.

It's quite reasonable for Turkey to tell ex-pats they're in danger in liberal democracies -- after all the Erdogan government paid a US General Flynn to kidnap one of the most liberal Islamic sects leaders.  Who knew that the main purpose of the US military is to act as an agent of a foreign power and kidnap benign and tolerant religious leaders?

This is the same Turkey that pro-actively sent people from its embassy onto the mean streets of DC to beat up Americans protesting Turkey's civil right violations of its own citizens.

No wonder terrified Turks who are running free should seek shelter in the bosom of a caring Turkey they escaped from.
