Incidentally he might need to spool up some new reels and get cracking at some storylines for the impending wave of slavery deniers.

According to Governor DeathSentence, slavery, segregation and lynchings never happened.

"Holocaust denial was on the rise again - that was the entire reason I made the movie in 1993,"

Huh?  You made a high budget movie to prove a couple thousand people wrong?  That would be like Ron Howard saying he made Apollo 13 because of flat earthers.

You might be surprised how many people actually deny that the holocaust happened.

I recall controversy over the stolen chicken scene (It was him!) and minority students laughing when the tension was deliberately comic, but reportedly there was laughing beginning with the civil engineer/foundation scene and further summary execution scenes.

I remember this ahole from the 80's

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Zündel

In 1994, Zündel campaigned in Canada to ban the movie Schindler's List as "hate speech" and celebrated the movie being banned in Malaysia and effectively banned in Lebanon and Jordan.

It's very disturbing that the Holocaust is being denied, because not only did it happen in recent history, it happened in LIVING history. There are still camp survivors and liberators and guards alive, first hand witnesses!

I still say he missed an opportunity not filming Auschlassic Park; it's where they use cloning to resurrect death camp inmates and guards but the Nazis get loose.

You'd also see Anne Frank pull a Lt. Ripley (from Aliens) and mow down a bunch of Nazis with a flamethrower.

As if that final scene would change the mind of Holocaust deniers.  They will just insist that the entire movie, including the final scene, is fiction.

All distractions from the truth that Courtney Love murdered Cobain and nothing gets done to bring her to justice. That's the underlying conspiracy.

Couple thousand? Donald Trump got 72,000,000 votes. 30% of his supporters are holocaust skeptics and roughly 30% of those are outfight deniers.

So 6 million in the US is a rough estimate.

IRRC, Eisenhower knew denialism was going to be a problem and so ordered copious documentation as the camps were liberated. And that the records that the Nazis left be preserved. It may not have been Eisenhower, but it was definitely a US general in the European theater.

The crazy part is that John Williams only has 5 Oscars. He's been nominated 53 times.

Bradley probably would have documented it, but probably not as well.

I recall a story of a Eastern European spy -- a Czechoslovakian who may have been one of the inspirations for James Bond -- who went to D.C. to relay information midway through the war.

FDR didn't want to hear about the holocaust camps; he kept switching the subject to horses and German logistics, annoying the spy.

/same spy I believe became persona non grata for calling out J. Edgar Hoover's sexual preferences when the latter was talking shiat to him

That final scene never fails to make me cry. It made a horribly depressing movie something very positive and life affirming. So many alive today because of what one flawed but essentially humane person did. Reinforces the idea that heroes do not have to be perfect, they just have to be normal human beings who step up when necessary.

2023-01-29 6:20:38 PM
You can't argue with Holocaust deniers.  They will just insist that every proof you submit is fake, every survivor is a crisis actor. These are the same people who believe the moon landing was faked and believe every word that comes out of the mouth of Alex Jones. The problem is that while in the past they may have been isolated nutjobs now with the internet and social media they can unite into a worldwide community of nutjobs.

I had a teacher in high school in the 80's who pulled the whole "there's no way they could have killed that many in that span of time" bit during class.

I think the big difference between now and then is that we have the internet which people think they're anonymous on but really aren't and have no issues with just spouting off whatever comes into their minds.

He had the liberating troops escort the locals through the camps like right afterwards, too, so they'd know it was real.

If someone was idiotic enough to be a Holocaust denier, that scene is extraordinarily unlikely to change that.  Calling a few dozen more people liars is nothing compared to the countless witnesses they are already calling liars. Likewise, the release of Obama's "long form" birth certificate very predictably convinced no birthers. India last year released great photos of Apollo 11 and 12 taken by its lunar orbiter and to my knowledge no  Apollo denier has changed their tune. Nor will the umpteenth transitional fossil suddenly eliminate creationism.

Years ago it turned out one of the people I had to work with was a holocaust denier.  He claimed all the evidence was manufactured by the Jewish controlled media.

Fortunately, the company found an excuse to fire him so he was only around for a couple of months.  I'm sure he blamed the Jews for getting fired.
