If it doesn't, you're making them wrong.

I have recipes for stollen, povitica, and Irish soda bread that all include actual instructions to stop and take a drink before continuing the next step.  Kirsch or glutwein for the stolen, local brandy for the povitica, and Irish cream or whiskey for the soda bread.

That reminds me, I have a stollen in the fridge now that's been marinating in dark rum since last month.. I need to test it out soonish.

The original recipe's call for anchovy sounds interesting.  I bet that it adds some serious umami to the dish.

Also I've never eaten them with gravy.  I assume a hearty brown onion gravy would pair well.

It's a shame that eggs are more expensive than a decent bottle of scotch right now, but at least I know which one I would rather buy..

Like a 5 minute egg in Ramen, a good scotch egg is a great thing.

I thought I'd hate them, but they're good. A favorite restaurant of mine serves them with a strawberry jalapeño jam. So tasty.

So tasty but shockingly filling. Literally one of the only uses I can think of for medium eggs.

/unless you need a petite egg for a fried egg sanguich on melba toasts

Learned about these in culinary school when I took tge Garde Manger class with my mentor.  They'll be on the menu at my future fast-casual restaurant. :)

You realise the 'scotch' in scotch eggs has no connection to either Scotland or the drink right?

I like scotch eggs and have made them a few times. I usually bake them, but they work well in an air fryer also.

Took me a minute to realize that the stollen comment was not connected to the rest of your post. Was getting concerned about stollen with anchovies and gravy...

I love scotch eggs. With that said, I found that guy painful to watch. His delivery was peak Canadian, which is not a bad thing, but WOW. He seemed surprised at the end when his eggs weren't "boiled hard", but I didn't notice any video cuts/breaks, so I'm assuming it was shot in real time...and he only had the eggs boiling for about 5 minutes, so OF COURSE THEY WEREN'T HARD. Other than wrapping an egg with sausage and frying it, I wouldn't take any other cooking advice from Mr. Old Timey Cookbook guy.

Yeah, it's English. Just means you drink a brown ale or stout or gin or something.  I'd say the beer would probably go better anyway.

My friends and I did a scotch egg trial where we made different batter recipes to see what coating worked the best. The worst was beer batter. The best was crushed corn flakes. It was an evil trial since scotch eggs are so heavy.

/I prefer a spicy mustard to serve with

sure it does, it's what happens when one true Scotchman runs out of haggises to put his boiled eggs in.
