(Inside the Magic)   Considering the average size of a Disney World visitor, maybe getting rid of the "all-you-care-to-enjoy" table service might not be such a bad idea   (insidethemagic.net) divider line

I like how they call it "all you care to enjoy" instead of the far simpler "all you can eat," as if there's actually some sort of meaningful difference between the two things beyond an implication that one is about enjoying the finer experiences in life, savoring pleasure just a little bit longer the way one might swirl a swallow of wine two or three extra over their mouth, and simply stuffing endless mounds of food into your face.

Sounds like they're just ending table service and making it a buffet. Or maybe they'll just strap feed bags on you.

Surprising that Disney, that nickel and dimes everything would have an all you can eat buffet.

help yourself to a bountiful breakfast featuring Mickey waffles, fresh pastries, smoked brisket and eggs, cheesy potato casserole

Sounds so very healthy.

Buffets are gross and people that eat at them are too.

Food price inflation and the pandemic has closed many a buffet. I personally hope we move towards a cafeteria or automat style dining, as I enjoy the concept of ready to serve food that isn't fast food.

"Individuals who struggle with obesity and are in a state of arrested development, marked by a love for childish activities such as Disney World, may feel sadness and frustration with this news, despite finding comfort in indulgences such as syrup-covered pancakes" -  FatGPT

It's Disney. Gotta make gorging sound magical.

Even Disney is having trouble keeping all the staff they need. Turning it into buffet or here is your single plate of food and then a dessert and you are giving a 45 minute window to sit at the table.

I'm sure they're aware of that. They just got sick long ago of having to remind smart-alecks that "all you can eat" doesn't mean you have to literally consume all you are physically capable of eating in one sitting.

In French, as many a snowbird could tell Disney staff, AYCE is usually rendered "à volonté" (lit. "at will," i.e. "eat as much as you feel like"). So I'll allow it.

Disney World doesn't go back to 1960, but America's weight gain over the past 50-60 years is still startling. For views of what a fairly average DW crowd looks like, here's a social event for D23 club members, all of them (surely) decently prosperous: https://d23.com/d23-event-recaps/d23-members-celebrate-45-years-of-walt-disney-world-with-special-guests/
